Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I believe what has happened is this. An account can only have XXX (don't know how many) amount of views, and it appears Mom's account has exceeded this number.
I'll talk to her and see if I can get them posted again. |

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Big matchup in first round of A/SA class eliminations.
1781 Dan Fletcher ****WINNER**** 0.010 10.332 127.39 250 Don Garlits 0.007 10.489 127.92 Looks like Garlits got him on the tree, slightly. The old man still has it. Awesome race between 2 great racers. Wish I could've seen it. Brad |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I hope Fletch can cut a light like that when he's 77 years old... LOL!
It's no accident Garlits is called "BIG DADDY!!! |

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
How about the bump spot (pending teardown) of 1.016 under the index. Since I have been going to Indy (1997-present) I have never seen anything like this! Dad ran 1.002 under and has to wait and see who shows up first round...133 cars 1 second or more under...UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Johns A/SA 10.14, 119, Duell A/SA 10.13, 117.
Don't run a lot of MPH for those ETs, do they? :D |

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I have got some pictures, but first about teardown. All of Hajek's cars have to teardown. NHRA is allowing them to take all non-essential stuff off tonight. I have a picture I will post later.
Others in teardown: John Livingston, Phil Pierce, another Mustang. I will know more later. We went by and took our bottle of Kentucky's finest to Jim Waldo, the winner of the A/S challenge. It is a bottle of Woodford Reserve in a 2009 Ky. Derby bottle. I have a pic I will post later. A story about the big wheelstand Gary Emmons did this morning. His brother Terry was supposed to tighten down the shocks and he asked which way to turn them. Gary told him clockwise. Terry turned them and said I think that is wrong. Gary said No that's right, close the hood. But he in fact loosened them all the way up. It was the best wheelstand of the weekend! And Gary said it was his fault, he just told him wrong. More later. Oh good grief... how many times do they have to have that car apart? I think Fisher told me that a few years ago, he had gotten torn down three races in a row. Congrats on your class win, though, Johnny!

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
We were going to have a picture of Beaudrou and Jimmy Defrank in staging before B/SA semi-finals, but Jimmy declined to have his picture made for reasons unknown. But it was really "COOL" to see Darrel Wikle and another crewmember with gloves on to remove the dry ice from the intake manifold and to carefully place the carb base plate (which appeared to be non-stock) that had been frozen in dry ice in the trunk. Evidently the "left coast rulebook" is different from the "right coast rulebook".
And on the winning hand (Jim Beaudro) used 10 # of ice in zip lock bags to cool the engine and cool water running thru the radiator. The good old fashioned way (and legal). Congratulations Jim Beaudro for your class win and maybe tomorrow Jimmy will take time to read the "East of the Mississippi rulebook", which is the one everyone gets in the mail. Larry p.s. I know what I saw. |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Michael,
Fisher's win in class was impressive to say the least. He took out some really good cars in K! A few observations; Emmons wheelstand was awesome but very scary. The car just kept going up and we all know the real story thanks to Larry. Boudreau's class win in B automatic over DeFrank was a great race. The orange Camaro certainly makes some good power. The final in A/SA was an all Mustang affair and was no surprise. These cars are certainly not showing their hand and the new Dodge drag paks will be the car which will finally push them to show their full potential. Having said that Barton's performance with the Carp machine was impressive! Fletch made his appearance today and showed everyone he certainly has the "game" figured out! The race with Garlits was icing on the cake and his single run in Comp in the second session proved that. A ton of cars were running some impressive ETs in the worst air of the weekend but runs to the 1,000 ft. mark were a common theme. Looking forward to the Hemi Challenge and Super Stock class eliminations in the morning. Mike |

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Looks like Hawk had a heck of a landing. Richie Pauley did that at Mission a couple years ago, landing on the oil pump busted the block. Maybe a more collapsible stock aluminum pump is the answer?
Sure are lots of guys that look close to Garlits age in these pictures ! |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Larry I think you meant the air cleaner base not the carb base plate.
Just what rule do you think they broke? |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Last i checked NHRA was'nt smart enough to send out different rulebooks Larry. They can't even factor these cars correctly which would be why your Cuda is at what 395 or 405 and our GTX is at 417 with the same motor?!?! Sorry but we choose to run our cars 1320 feet not 1,000. We also work on them, run them, travel to race them, we were born out here and continue to live here due to our circumstances. If the grass is so green out here come on out. Same stupid factor as the 340 duster at 289 and the Cuda at 299 1972. Why? Air, Weight, FUN. Don't you build em to go fast?!?! We tried like hell to be the first G car to go 10's, at an NHRA race, not in testing or at some super combo on a Wednesday that your uncle saw. Congrats to all those at Indy that ran as fast as you could and you proved why my dog could'nt ever hunt in your world.

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Thanks Mrs Hill for the nice picture of my husband. We are not able to go to Indy every year and I wish I were there too. We have two little boys at home 2 yrs and 4 months. I hope to go in a few years. It would be nice to meet your family.

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
It is another beautiful day here in Indy. Super gas has been warming up outside our bedroom window for hours now. They should be running first round in a few minutes. Super Stock should be running class by 9.
Dave, It was pointed out to an Nhra official. Sorry I keep spelling Boudreau's name wrong. I guess I am using the southern version. Andy's Dad, It was the air cleaner base, sorry. The rule that was broken is the one about no dry ice! Oh, I forgot, that rule shows up in the "West Coast rulebook". Oh, in A/SA yesterday, they ran like they showed up in the lanes. They all agreed they had to beat everyone there, so what did it matter. Well we are going down to watch super stock run class in a bit, so we will wander by the barn and let you know who all is there. Patsy |

I'm guessing Defrank gave up the win in fear of running -1.40 under, unless he broke past 1000 ft?

I can't find any reference to dry ice in my book. I've looked on page 250 where it talks about cool cans, Freon, wet rags, etc. and it doesn't mention dry ice. I've looked on page 105 where the fuel system limitations for Stock Eliminator are described, right down to where we can't put the (legal) cool can and it doesn't mention dry ice. All I can find is the paragraph on page 250 where it says that we can't artificially cool or heat the fuel. Putting ice (dry or wet) on the intake manifold seems to me to not be cooling the fuel, but cooling a piece of metal. I'm thinking that putting dry ice in the fuel cell would be considering cooling the fuel? Running an intercooler to cool the incoming air would be illegal since it involves changing the ambient temperature of the air that enters the induction system and that's specifically banned. The next sentence says that all towels and ice (type not specified) must be removed before leaving the staging "area" and I interpret that to mean the staging lanes. Larry/Patsy, where am I going wrong? Putting a cold substance (not Freon, but ice of any type) on the manifold must be accomplishing the same thing (cooling a piece of metal). As long as everything is removed before pulling out of the staging lanes, it seems to be OK according to the book they sent me? So, Scott, was I sent an "east" or "west" coast book? Or, am I completely off base and looking in the wrong place? Assuming that I have a "west" coast book since I drive by NHRA offices almost every day, could someone please e-mail me the wording of an "east" coast book so that i can compare and contract the differences? Since I have to pay extra for a book for 2010 anyway, I want to be sure to get them both. Keep having fun. At least some of you are there!! c |
