Re: Drooze

Now now boys play nice.
I've been following Drooze's posts since day 1. I am a fan, I love his stories and his excitement over his new car and I've seen that he's a survivor who's been thru a lot. (I'm looking forward to meeting you and your dad some day soon.)
We all plan & hope for our cars to do well and express ourselves in different ways. It's not bragging, it's hoping out loud. Remember, it's sometimes difficult to get the gist and emotion from a forum post.
This forum would be boring as hell if it wasn't for posts like Drooze's.

Artie & Jim are 2 of the nicest people I've met (in person) racing. I'm proud to have their hand me down Dodge turbo and the benefit of both of their experiences with the car.
... and I'd be happy to listen to any advice Boosted has for turbo cars and data gathering ideas. The internet is a wonderful tool for sharing ideas and experience.
There is so much we can learn from each other... instead of busting on people you've never me.
I lurk and read and learn.... because some of you ss/sstk people are so darn cranky & mean you even scare me, and that's pretty hard to do.

It's absolutely foolish to be running that car down the track and not closely look at the data, actually, you shouldn't even of gone to the track and your tuner should of realized this as a MAJOR PROBLEM.

Case and point, similar situation as you, except I didn't talk **** for months building up to this so it didn't attract near as much attention. About 10 years ago I build a turbo'd car, lost a motor. I did the same thing as you and just guessed what went wrong. My datalogging system was screwing up, but I didn't think anything of it as I was convinced I knew what the problem was. Build another motor, and pop it. Same issue. Didn't have data. Built another motor, figured out my data logging issues, and found out that we had a wastegate problem and the car was seriously over boosting (data doesn't lie). Something that was so simple cost tons of money. Could be the same in your circumstances as well.

You have the "technology" so you say, use it. Your tuner should know better than to send a car down the track without knowing 100% sure that the datalogging system is working.

I'm gonna keep Drooze out of this. He's a friend and co racer dealing with new learning curves. He's had his fair share of ups and downs and I wish him and his crew well. I do agree with your comment about his tuner. His engine also add's another factor into the mix as well.

Anyways.....I don't know you, nor you know me, however you brought up very valid points. For me, data logging and active knock sensors are my new best friends. If it wasn't for those, I'm sure I'd of oiled down a track or two in the past 4 years.

Thanks ! Well, as with us the saga never ends, lol, we broke a trailer axle in Wyethville Virginia, and before anyone rags I just had the trailer serviced, brakes, shackles, springs and such.

**** just happens, oh well were here for the night. Get trailer fixed hopefully on the road by 5 PM....

I gotta get home to my son, hes back in the hospital , all going to be ok, but hes bored sitting there and we have a good time when hes there (strange but true, good company I guess)

So, well a couple people know the "real" story of what happened to our motor, some are just guessing and slinging mud, thats ok, funny I wasnt even the one driving, same thing the old man said, "Thats Ok everyone is gonna blame you" and he laughed, fair enough.

The funny part is those who are throwing guesses and conjecture have no idea what happened, Grubbs, who was nice enough to give us some very real, very valuable and very sage advice was standing on the line next to me when it happened, he called it 100% right, I didnt, he was spot on. His advice on many things were ACE , and they will be listened to without reserve, Arts advice as well, thats a given. The only single regrets I have is I wasnt able to find Mr. Grubs or Beaver before I left to thank them for their advice and input (and selfishly get more, as it was A1 :)

The really funny part for us is reading the conjecture of people like boosted, and knowing he dosent know but keeps trying to act like he does, thats some funny and entertaining stuff. (for us, it may be our and a few others here "inside joke" but still funny)

We see the week and trip as a success, lets recap.

Got Cage Certed last week,
Got Our Liscences
Got Our Competiton Numbers
Got a Grade Point (both of us)
Learned "The Drill" at an event.
Met some great people
Learned a LOT of information at the track.
Everyone is healthy and we had a good time with the exception of 10 minutes of Oil down.

Broke a motor
Broke a trailer axle

Seems like the balance sheet still says "Success" to us.

How many Grade points you have Boosted and what is Your Competition Number ? Maybe you have em, but now were like Art said able to use them, that Progess for us, steps forward. Slow progress but progress, when we stop progressing, we will change how we do things, until then the world and racing, and life in general is at our command at our pace.

Thanks Itsy

None, I don't class race. But you have proven that all you need to do to get a grade point is to take your daily driver down the track, so I'm not sure what you are getting at there???

I have a competition license and a ET number?? Does that count? :)

One day your car will maybe be fast enough to actually need a competition license, but I doubt it. ;)

So keep the personal comments coming, all I did was question a few things and disagree with some of your choices, I've obviously struck a nerve.

boosted, Last night, you posted comments on this thread, page 5, post #50, regarding the Drooze DP car, also talking about your 4 cyl. turbo car.... your comments were: It is a consistent 9.50 sec. street-driven 4cyl turbo car, 60k miles on motor, running street tires at the track. Before I could reply, (pg.6, post 51) you deleted all that I just mentioned regarding said car. There are more than a few here who caught that post, and we would like to hear about the 1/4 mile performance of your car again, along with those details that you previously stated in post # 50, page 5.... Regards. WJ

What's specifics are you interested in? It doesn't run 9.5's nor did I say that. It run's 9.9's. It is on street tires, I drive it a ton of the street when it's nice out. It runs on pump gas, and has about 6000 miles on the current engine, not 60,000, I didn't say that. It is a turbo'd 4 cylinder car. What other details would you like? Timeslip? Video? I have both.

I'm not real sure what details you are referring too with post #50 in this thread?

I also don't have any idea what this has to do with anything?? :)

The actual effort to do it. Thats all.

I have a competition license and a ET number?? Does that count? :)

Sure in my book it does, I hadnt seen anywhere that you said that, and thats why I said "maybe you do" yes it counts in my book.

One day your car will maybe be fast enough to actually need a competition license, but I doubt it. ;)

If it does with the 5.7 Im gonna have a lot more enemies out there Im sure :)

So keep the personal comments coming, all I did was question a few things and disagree with some of your choices, I've obviously struck a nerve

I didnt see any "personal" comments, none, disagreeing and pointing out you really dont know the situation as much as you claim to thats not personal its simple fact.

You asked technical questions and I gave the details, simple.

Point me to a "personal comment" I made in regards to you.

I thought I have been reserved as usual

Trust me you didnt even come close to striking a nerve, I dont allow others to rent space in my head and I really , truly could give a crap less what other people thing of me, I think youda learned that by now. (I mean COME ON Look at MY HAT !)

I have a life to live, things to handle , and most of my commitments and real responsiblities of which are seldom posted here take enough of a toll that this is all fun and games...nothing more.

I dont mind being the "underdog" its a role Im all to familiar with. It make success that much sweeter.

These are just engines, metal, nothing more, when I am done I will have familiarity with the exact capablities and stresses they are and are not able to handle first hand.

I cannot say these were intentional, but I have grenaded motors on purpose for the very same information, repeatedly, I went a whole year grenading motor after motor, only to build the Highest output motor of its type at the time by a wide margin. So.....who is someone to say my approach is wrong just because its not their approach ? The old man saw it. He knows, first hand, hes been seeing me do it my way for 30 years, I built my OWN first motorcycle from the GROUND up when I was 8, he saw it, and he saw me kill it, and rebuild it, and again and again, and again, he saw me build over a dozen motors in cars, all performing beyond expectations, mine or his, so between us the only person that needs to see results are him. Hes eager as hell for me to build the next motor, we didnt build these bottoms, the only thing hes pissed at is we havent had time to build our own. Now we dont have a choice, I like that.

People in my experience give advice for 3 reasons.

1)Because they are honestly helpful people who wish others not to make a mistake they have made.
2)They would like to do the same things but are unable and would like to participate in the effort by their suggestions and advice
3)Choose to show how much they know by offering "professional advice" with no real goal other than to elevate their percieved expertise (read "Winning by Intimidation" great book that enables insight to people motives)

People choose not to follow a persons advice for more reasons than I can list but here are a few
1)They simply dont accept the source as reliable or qualified
2)They think they may have an alternative approach that is equally valid but takes into account variable the person giving the advice wasnt aware of
3)They belive the advice but would like to see a negative result for themselves and gain information that is impossible for the person giving the advice to communicate
4)They have personal experience in somthing similar that will apply and renders the advice either innacurate or moot.

And on, not all reasons for either are negative, they are human nature.

This is exactly how you are felt from our camp as well dozens of others.

My guess is one of 3 "camps" 2 Ive smacked in public the other well, not so much but there is no love lost.

So if its your "job" from that camp to "follow" and post FUD, so be it, everyone needs purpose in life I guess......

Im just honored I am giving someone a reason to go on :D

Let me get this straight. Drooze has a legal A/SA car and wasn't in the 9's first time out, and you, you have a what ? A turbo something or other with no rules, and you're ragging on HIM?

Lol...I know....I just couldnt resist showing off my most awesome signature line :D:D:D

I have a feeling BoostedFC22 is one of a "Shill" one of 2 "camps" as he calls them, if you look at his post history there are 28 posts, 26 directed at me, 1 of the others is a For Sale Item, and another is a link to a request for pics of a DP car.....Now, I know that well....lets just say I pissed unintentionally on someone shoes, and well.....since then, and since them calling someone we both know only to have them be told, "You asked for it", and "They should have know better" , oddly Boosted has been there with no other purpose, Hmmmmm, lets see what Challenger he was first to respond to on the pic request......That was his 3rd post.

Could very well be wrong, it is 100% possible that was just taken as an Opportunity and he comes from the other "Camp" in which case I know what I did to piss them off too, so be it, apparently I have that talent. But it really ISNT intentional.

Ive know this for a while, and have decided to "play" with it, some of the info has been good, some bad, Ive even posted a few "illegal" pics on the Flickr site .... well see.....(I am SOoooo waiting for a teardown or "call" for this or that only to see egg land on their face because what they "think" they know dosent hold water) Its a credibility game, my bet you will never know Boosteds real name, or location, or pictures of him and his car in an identifiable and verifyable setting, why ? Because that will give the whole "Shill" away.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck , its probably someone trying to pimp you a prostitute duck.

Classic Mark there !!!

Drooze, (Chris), that comment was meant for Busted whatever, not to you ! I read this board all the time, and enjoy it immensely. The people I have met over the past 5 yrs, trying to be a Classracer, has made a lot of the comments even better, when you can see that guy making that comment, and and almost see the wink, and etc..
I missed you and your dad this am, as I didnt get to the track, from dealing with other issues, but, it was hoping to meet you, anyway.
I know you will, over time, really enjoy racing the stocker, more than you even know. The people will be the best part of it, well, that and a few round wins too, and the competition.

See you sometime this yr, hopefully.

Hi Chris, you sure are having a run of bad luck with the motors, but those things will work out.
Your son's health issues are much more important and hopefully more good news will be forthcoming. The opportunity that you have with your Dad to race and have fun is priceless.
Good luck for the rest of the season and take care of your son.

Thanks, waiting for the truck repair company to pickup the trailer , then Im on my way home.

Some of the motor issues are self induced, some well, just getting familiar with a new setup and what it can and cant do or handle.

Not luck....direct effect of our actions (or inactions) but all good.....Im going for 3 :) I get a discount when I buy em by the 6 pack :)

I hope to meet you soon as well.

Weve been fortunate with our mishaps none are critical or too time consuming.

We hope to be at Charlotte, I got my hands on the last 2 sets of DP pistons I needed that were already made....whew....

Now I gotta try to light a fire under my Guys over at a local defense contractor to do my DLC with one of their prototype runs, thats the dicey part, but Ill have em do the important stuff first, the other coatings Im doing so....

Its gonna be tight, I may end up putting the motor in in the pits :)

Wont be the first time.

What is the first race youre going to be at ?
