Re: What's your daily driver now.
Most days I drive a 2002 GMC Sierra. When the weather cooperates, I drive a '69 Camaro. Never checked the fuel mileage on it, probably don't want to know. It has a 350 with a 266/272 stocker cam, cast iron intake with a Q-jet, and a 3500 stall converter. It's black with black interior and no A/C, so it's not all that comfortable in the middle of summer.

I drive a 1995 Camaro. What else? Lol! It's just a base coupe with a V-6 auto, nothing hi-performance.

Don't know if I should bring this up or not...
There are some guys who race mopars...and drive mopars, or race Fords and drive Fords etc. What about the guys who are all Ford/Chev/Dodge at the track, but drive a toyota or hyundai etc as a DD? Don't want this to turn into a pissing contest, just curious of the mindset. My Mustang is my racecar, my F-350 is my DD and the wife drives a freestar. No, imports cannot park in my driveway! LOL! I've had quite heated discussions at night when the lanes close on why ford/chev/dodge is best, but then notice their DD is a honda? Seriously? If this turns the thread ****ty, I'll delete the post. I'm just curious why die hard X fans have a Y as their Daily Driver? |
Re: What's your daily driver now.
It seems there aren't many "American" cars pulling good gas milage comparable to the foreign cars at the same price range and percieved quality.I tend to favor Chrysler but
their cars aren't very gas efficient, unless you count the upcoming Fiat 500 time bomb. |

I have a 1989 Oldsmobile 88 Royale with the 3.8L Buick engine and over 275,000 miles. It still runs strong even though I abuse the hell out of it.

Re: What's your daily driver now.
Show me an American car that gets 40 plus
with the air on @ 70 mph, has the build quality, and most importantly its what the wife wants.Thats why her dd is a Honda Civic. It has 87K plus miles, has never been in the shop for anything other than an oil change or tire rotation when I couldnt get to it myself. For the record,I work at a Ford dealership in the parts dept. |
Re: What's your daily driver now.
My daily driver is a 2009 Ford Flex. So far it's been a great car. My fun car is a 65 GTO convertible with a built 455, 200 R4 trans, twelve bolt 3.73 gear and a lot of suspension and brake upgrades. It is really fast and fun.

Re: What's your daily driver now.
I drive a 2010 Malibu LTZ.Wife Drives a 2008 Ford Fusion SL V-6. If I had it to do over again, I think I would have bought another Loaded Fusion. They are both nice cars, and I can't really put my finger on it, but that Ford just fits like an old worn pair of shoes

My dd is a 2004 F350 diesel 4x4, gets about 19 empty on the road,
15 towing a car on open trailer, add cab over camper drops to 10-11. I wish I still had both my 2000 Dakota 4.7 4x4 & 1969 Cuda 340-S. |

As for now, my '04 Chevy Colorado is both my daily driver, and the hauler for the Cavalier to the races...it just completed a great job of getting me up to Wyoming (to get the car), back to Colorado (for some other stuff, and family visiting), and then southeast to San Antonio to race, before an hour ago getting me back home from there...nearly 3k miles for the whole trip...now that's some hauling...that is unless you're Dan Fletcher, or Mark Faul (et.al.)??? :) |

Now I'm considering turning my Chevy II Wagon into my daily-driver..... |
Re: What's your daily driver now.
My daily driver is the same vehicle I tow my Nostalgia SS car with, a 2006 Dodge Durango 5.7 hemi...one of the best vehicles I've ever had. Drive it 40 miles one way to work each day, gets 22 mgh; pulls my car on an open trailer with a lot of power, comfort, gets 17mpg pulling the trailer, a great vehicle!! Now, I've downsized over the years, don't haul as many tools and junk like that, if I have to work on anything it goes home and I take a nap first. It doesn't even work up a sweat pulling the trailer.
My wife drives an 07 Pacifica, another great car. |

At the farm up north I prefer to DD my 64 Corvair Monza Spyder Turbo. Always gets stares at the grocery store when I load my bags in the front. Its really a fun little car to drive! Any of you NY/NJ boys familiar with the dealer it came from? Tag says Circle Chevrolet Red Bank, NJ |
Re: What's your daily driver now.
Steve,
What, if anything have you done for suspension and hitch upgrades on that Durango. I bought an 08 for my wife and have been considering trying it out with our open trailer. My daily driver is a 96 chevy 1500 extended cab. I don't know what it gets for mileage I've never checked because I know it's not good. My fun car is a 63 Plymouth Belvedere post car. 440 short block with max wedge heads and cross ram, with the push button. Fun but not practical. Rick Ryan |

Best money I ever spent on a car - gets 26-29 mpg on the Atlantic City Expressway along with being safe at any speed ..................Like they used to say when we were kids - trust the star .

Re: What's your daily driver now.
Yea Jack but the Star we were supposed to trust was on the Texaco guys shirt I'm pretty sure.....not a Mercedes Benz.....
I worked where you could get a "Tiger in your Tank"....and handed out stamps and sometimes game cards like........."Tigerino's".... We were across the street from a Texaco station.... |

2011 Mini Cooper 4 door. 30 miles away for work.
The wife uses the GMC tow vehicle for work. 4 miles away. |

Most cars "torque up" when you gas it while on the brakes if it's an automatic... A Corvair "torques down"....... I had a good friend who owned a Turbo Corvair and I think it was a convertible...... I worked on them all the time in the old days...... Everyone had the little CO detector badges on the dash. Ralph Nader trashed those cars in his book.....and that was the end for them... |

Im glad people trash them and make fun....makes them more affordable for me to buy. ;) And I am very lucky to have one of the best Corvair repair shops/parts supply just about 35 miles from the farm. If I need something it usually takes them about 3 days to find the part in one of the old chicken barns they use for storage. But they ALWAYS find what i need! |
Re: What's your daily driver now.
I inherited a 1987 Mercedes 190D from my father in law. He bought it from the factory when he was a spook in Europe. He says when he was there he was assigned a gas powered 190 that he swears was hands down the fastest car that he's ever been in. An real Autobahn badboy. Then he goes to the factory and what does he order? A frickin' 4 door diesel! My wife and I got it almost twenty years and 200k miles later. It's an oddball, it's got the larger size motor with no turbo and a five speed which makes it maybe one of four in this country. 99.9% of the eighties 190Ds were turbodiesel automatics that expired just before 100k. I'm sure it's been a total turd since day one, driving it is a relentless exercise in pointless shifting. I've been passed by bicycles but it gets over 35 miles per gallon. Unfortunately, much of the money saved on fuel goes towards the insane cost of parts. The windshield wiper, for example, has a transmission that costs over five hundred dollars USED. Driving around up here in the NW w/out a windshield wiper or two is not an option so I had to buy one. I can never get rid of it but I stopped driving it daily because it became too much of a pain to get it started in the winter time. I still keep it clean. It's a good looking car and really pretty high quality. The 63-70 Mopars that I tend to play with are honestly pieces of crap in comparison in terms of build quality (at least until we're done with them). I hate to say it but it's true.

I drive around my 4-door, '66 Dodge Coronet as a daily driver. 225 leaning tower of power with a single bbl Carter. On the nicer days, I drive my 2-Door, '66 Dodge Coronet with the big block

Re: What's your daily driver now.
Currently, a 1995 Grand Marquis LS (4.8 modular 281/180 hp at 4250 lbs with driver), with 187,000 miles. The car currently has a 72.07% round-win average, (191-64), has nineteen event wins including three World Series of Drag Racing titles since 2006 and has won right at $15K. It also gets 28 mpg to and from the races.

I'm as green as your Dart - with envy! Nice choice of rides there! I drive an '01 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 360 c.i. I only drive 7 miles to and from work, so gas $$ is not a major concern. I get about 9 in town and 12 on the road. :-( PO towed a small 5th wheel with it quite a bit, so the tranny needed a rebuild at 75K, but other than that it has been rock solid. Just now starting to show a little rust after 10+ Northern Indiana winters. I've been thinking of upgrading to a new RAM, but this one is paid for and runs great. It's not always this dirty...lol! |
Re: What's your daily driver now.
JRyan,
My Durango. Didn't touch it. It has the factory tow package, (most Hemis do), and four wheel disc brakes. Just used a good equalizer hitch, good electric brakes, sway control, gassed it up and went. I pull a Hemi 65 Coronet that weighs 3905 with me, on a lightweight open trailer. I usually take a small tool box, a generator, and a basket with oil/stop leak, stuff like that. Also a cooler, you know, the regular stuff. We live in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania, so there is a lof of mountains to go up, go down. It stops, drives, and handles like a dream. It will pull up these mountains 70 mph, gets good mileage....it is probably the best little tow vehicle I've ever had. I'd buy another one in heartbeat. |

Re: What's your daily driver now.
LOL! I really messed up that post. It's a GS model, (not an LS), with the 190 hp 4.6 281. I think it was rated at 260 ft/lbs, as well. The LS model had a 210 hp version available at the end of the '95 run. The Police Interceptor package was actually a 250 hp combo. The rear end is the standard 3.08 although there was a factory 3.27 gear available. Mine has no TractionLok but I race with the AOD disengaged to make sure the car actually slows down when I lift!
The GrandMa, as my friends affectionately call it, has won slightly less than fifty percent of the Corvette's total. The only interesting piece on the car is the original factory aluminum intake manifold which was only available on the first production run of the '95s. I still have kids with 4.6 Mustangs come up to me at the track and ask if I made the manifold myself! Best pass ever was 16.43/84.78 in -300 feet air but I run it with a loaded trunk and a full tank of gas so it can't spin even if it's on a frozen lake. Therefore, it's usually around 17.20 or so. I use Goodyear Eagle IIIs at 18 lbs which work well, too. Heck, a full gas tank adds 147 lbs! |

Daily driver now? Red 91 Chevy Silverado X cab pickup that I bought 12 years ago from Chuck Norton. Best money I ever spent on a toy. It has 210,000 miles on it, still runs, stops, looks and drives great. Tow vehicle is a 90 GMC Suburban 2500, 454, 400 trans, loaded, drives and looks great. Tows an open trailer and a Chevelle like its not there. The truck takes me five miles to the Covina Metrolink station where I catch the first morning train to downtown Los Angeles to work. I can't stand driving hardly at all anymore. Drives me nuts.('>')
