Blink, blink, blink.Toby, any idea what the reasoning is behind the race being completed at
three different venues? It doesn't register in my old brain cells.

They called all the drivers still in competition to the tower and asked them where they wanted to run and they voted on it. Fletcher has a plane to catch so he didn't want to run tomorrow and I guess he got enough comp racers to agree with him to run it at the finals.

Most of the super stock racers that were left have to work tomorrow and didn't want to finish it tomorrow. Probably the same deal with top sportsman and motorcycle.

The rest of the classes voted to run it here tomorrow. Whatever the majority wanted to do.

Re: Live from the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals

For the record, once the rain stopped and the track was dried yesterday, the remaining daylight time was utilized to the maximum advantage. The racers were in the lanes on time, pairing was completed with a minimum of fuss, the starting line was excellent, and, at the end of the day, the surviving racers were given some opportunity for input. Had the accident during the second round of S/C not occurred, I think that a couple more categories would have gotten in another round. Even the West Coast Rulebook avoided throwing us any unexpected curves.

Thanks to Jeg's for helping provide us this opportunity.

The Division 7 crew and the Fontana track management, are to be congratulated for their efforts.

It still says processing on the final video. It's been like that for 15 minutes. I thought I would just post it anyway. Hopefully it will be done soon.

Thank you Bret for even noticing where I was qualified. I ended up as the #3 qualifier, but it was fun to be the number one qualifier for a day. I passed on running in the final qualifying session. I was worried the 12 MPH tailwind might push that box of a race car I drive one second under the index.

Hey Jim! I am surprised that anyone even noticed that I was at the top of the stock qualifying list for one day, although I was eventually bumped down to number 3. Thanks for the kind words. Bill

Thank you Dennis, I really appreciate that, although I was eventually bumped down to the #3 qualifying position. It was fun to be on the top of the qualifying list for one day. There are not too many of us left, that are still racing the FWD cars anymore, especially after the classes were consolidated and alot of the cars could no longer make the weight break. It is good to know there are still a few of us left.

Great job, Bill. Never met, but I've watched your results for many, many years! Thanks for adding another voice bringing attention to the problem of FWD class breaks. As I posted in another thread, since they have the "class singles combo" now, there shouldn't be any concern about having everybody collecting Wallys on a single, so can we get the old FWD class structure back???

Your car sounds great; like the converter is really working well. What kind is it?

Hey Bill, don't count me out as a FWD guy! I took the SRT4 out of moth balls last month and ran 12.89 at legal weight! I will always be an advocate for the FWD cars! Jim:D

We were too - but he red lit - with a huge advantage
Oh well - still a good running car and decent driver
Would have been a 7 second head start

Everybody complains about the new cars but Bill and Robert were both more than .90 under in old combos - right behind us

And yes we were all out - whether the no names on here believe it or not

And we had to teardown my brand new "baby" - without experience, metric tools or gaskets

Lyle Larson (Andy's Godfather) from DC Performance drove out in a badass GTS Viper to bring us the gaskets

Phil Mandella (PMR Race Cars) found Rick Leininger Jr (MOPAR guy who works for JE Pistons) to help us tirelessly R+R the head until 11:30 Saturday night

Got it back together right - maybe to good BO 1st round

All three of us will be at Bakersfield this coming weekend

:-) peace

Good to know he wasnt hurt.

Just for the record, it wasn't that the track was too short. He lost it right after the finish line, and came in contact with the water barriers at the short turnout. Still plenty of track remaining, but something went wrong early on.

The Fontana shut down is about the same as the Pomona shut down. The Pomona shut down is the shortest of all 22 events. It is also downhill.

Re: Live from the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals

Here's the shutdown length of most national event tracks. It was compiled by Bret Kepner in 2008. Also, Seattle did add a sand trap last year. The road coarse runs along the fence so they had to add it about 100 feet or so closer to the starting line.

Maybe the fact it's 3 years old is the culprit but thought all tracks had to have sand traps now (look at Norwalk) because of the Scott Kalitta tragedy (plus others). In any case people who've never run Pomona or Fontana before had better check their stuff before running and waste no time hitting the binders when crossing the line...looking for a win light, looking at oil pressure, etc is all secondary. Having run Gainesville several times it definitely spoils you.

You are probably correct. That is most likely the reason Seattle added one last year.

Here are the last four rounds of Super Stock that were completed at Bakersfield. They are all in 720p. When you click on the links below, it will default to the 360p version. To get the 720p version you must select it from the pop up menu on the bottom right of the video where it says 360p:
