It was maroon with the silver stripes on the roof like most Jr. stockers of the era had. He also ran a dark green 202 sedan with the 225 HP combo in "F" Factory stock. He was a NASCAR Winternationals winner with a 271 HP Mustang with an automatic in Daytona in 1966 named "Pegasus". He prefered an automatic trans car after loosing a couple of toes in a clutch explosion racing a 1962 Corvette prior to racing the Comets. One thing I remember was he had Stahl Headers and had candy stripes painted on the long collectors exiting under the doors. They had a sound all of their own.

Hey Terry, Sorry we didn't get to bs a little more at MIR just too much going on. Might see you at one of the assoc. races this winter. --------A little Gene Collins story----For some reason he made it a point to constantly complain about my 66 W30 Post sedan. Seemed like every week I was being looked at and harrassed about everything from the air cleaner to the rear end. And to make it worse his wife (boy was she HOT! ) handed out et slips at Aquasco. Funny thing, I parked up on the hill and played cards with Perzan, Samuels, Johnny Walker, Buggs Terry and the crew. If one of them knocked off Gene she didn't say a word but when it was me world war three broke out. I got my revenge though. He took the Mustang to Daytona in 67 to defend his 66 win. I made a home made tow bar and drug that 442 to Daytona followed him to staging and wore his a## out. Then went on to win the whole thing. Revenge is so sweet. ( Did I say his wife was HOT!! ?)

They sure were and I miss the hell out of them.----- Yes I remember ---as Paul Harvey would say "Now you know the rest of the story" All those Mustang guys had HOT wives/girlfriends. Every time Tommy Cooksey would bring Debby around I forgot how to talk. Twice she sunbathed on the back of my car hauler , once at Suffolk in a frickin Bikini. Not only did I have the most visitors I don't even remember making it to staging. Come to think of it Tommy was in my class hmmmm.----Oh well it was worth it-----Danny :-)

The post linked shows some Stock nat records from 1965.

I like to scan these old threads for Pontiac stuff. This list shows 5 Pontiac record holders. There's a '56, '58, '62, '63, & 1 with no year listed. I can ID some of these cars. I'll post pics of those and maybe guess at some.

I'll show 2 '56 models. The 1st one obviously won the I/SA class at Indy '67. So, it was one of the quickest '56 Pontiacs of that time period. But, I don't know if it was the '65 record holder. On the list, the '56 is listed as Ed's Auto Service. One name on the car in pic #2 is Ed Hamburger. So, I suppose that might have been the car on the list. May not have been either. Don't know.

#3 The '58 is listed as Dixon & Easley. I have pics of a '58 with Lowe & Easley on it. Could be the same car, or not. I figure it's the same Easley, for sure.

#4 Pretty sure the E/SA '62 Pontiac would have to be Ramon Lowe's '62 GP.

#5 The '63 E/SA will have to be this one.

#6 Since there is no year listed & I don't recognize the name, I don't have a clue about the F/SA Pontiac. But, I do know that Jay Hamilton did real good with his '58 Pontiac, which ran F/SA some. So, I suppose the car on the list could be a '58.

#7 The car in the previous post is the '65 Pontiac ragtop, raced by Jack Matyas.

Possibilities for the F/SA Pontiac of Pat Benyuska:
12.76 62 bonn 2ht 389/318-6v
12.78 60 bonn 2ht 389/318-6v
12.65 62 gran prix 389/303-4v
12.75 58 starchief 2ht 370/300-6v
12.66 58 starchief 4ds 370/310-FI

The last one is Hamilton's car body but I dont know if Jay ever ran a 370/310-FI combo in it. Decent fit to class though.

It looks like the "Hydramatic" Sedan Deliveries invaded this class from 1967-69, then were banned in 1970 cuz thatt trans didnt even fit the body without cutting. It was largely a Pontiac class up until then.

The 4door was a perfect fit to the old W/P=11.90 class.
When the classes changed for 1968, H/SA=11.50 class.
The Bonneville 2dr hardtop was near perfect at W/P=11.55 with the same 370/330-6v (until the super duty stuff was banned for 1970).

I show Jay as H/SA=11.50 R/U at 68 Pomona with the Bonneville hardtop.

Thanks for finding that picture I dont think I had one of Jay's 2door car.
