Well.... got real lucky this morning (won first rd of SS).

Staged the car, Roy Hill staged at sametime and then we both went to the floor.
However, the tree never came down..... I was told that the dialins were missing from the boards. After what seemed like 2 minutes (probably 5 seconds or so) on the chip, the lights finally came down. I was told as soon as our dialins were posted, the tree activated.

No excuses, bad light (.213),... just an explanation.

Luckily.... Roy went red, because I was dead late!

I guess I was owed that from all the close ones I Iost earlier this year. I'll take it!
Rd 2 is scheduled for 530pm tonite (followed by rd 3 also tonite).

Back in the days, every round, use to fill lots of jugs (on a Flyer hand wagon) with water and pour it in the engine.
Icing the intake and the fuel line in the cool can was also common practice.
Today the cooler on the golf cart is easier on the back, more effective and not as messy.......

Now that's funny. I remember those days. After every pass Dad would say "Alright go get some water" in the little red wagon we had three of those big clear looking water jugs.

Ahhh, the days of the old red wagon and cool down jugs. I must have logged a thousand miles pulling that wagon from the pits to the staging lanes.

There should be some type of device to indicate honorable service as the family water boy. Maybe a patch in the shape of a water jug with a little red wagon on the inside..."Gone but never forgotten"

those units pictured probably "list" for at least $2500 to maybe as much as $4000 maybe even more depending on who ya got it from as well as the extras---the generators pictured add in another $800 to $1900-----close enuf for ya ???

They are easy to make with a cooler and a submergible (sp?) pump. They've been used in other "heads up" drag racing for years.

You can build one for less than $150.00.

Don't forget to add the price of the golf cart and the extra crew necessary to get this stuff to the lanes when you need it........Pretty hard carrying a chiller machine full of ice and water and a generator from the lower forty.....:D

Do they at least still give out a trophy for an Indy class win? Cause than it's definately worth it:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Re: pics from INDY... 2011... from sheehan

The silver unit "Cold Shot" is somewhere around $11-1200 and comes with the one way valve for the upper radiator hose. The one way valve has "Jiffy-Tite" quick disconnect fittings for easy operation. The units hold twenty-two gallons of water, however most folks are only using about half of that. The units are made one at a time and can be custom tailor made to fit your storage or operational needs. The inner vessel and outer cabinet are separated by insulation to keep the water as cold as possible.

Can be done much easier, cheaper, and smaller. Use a NOS size bottle full of liquid CO2 (liquid dry ice). Just make a heat exchanger type of manifold for the fuel to run through with the liquid CO2. You "ice down" the fuel in a matter of seconds in the staging lanes.

It is impossible to get liquid CO2 (without a significant pressure change), it goes directly from solid to gas, and vice versa. Liquid nitrogen is a lot colder plus it can be stored at normal pressure. However, -200 C might be a little bit too cold lol

Larry Hill 09-05-2011 09:39 AM

Re: pics from INDY... 2011... from sheehan

Yes it comes in a dip tube bottle similar to an O2 bottle. Liquid nitogen is much colder.

Does anybody have problems starving the pump for water when they put the valve in the upper hose? I was told that it should be in the bottom but I've seen guys put them in the upper and was wondering if they've had problems?

If that's true, then why hasn't somebody else started making them and selling them? Sounds like a business opportunity to me!
