Found it on the net.
Still hurts my old eyes to look at it.

Heard in the paint booth.....
"If one color is good and two is cool, I wonder what more will look like?"
"Roll another one and we'll find out."

As an old spray painter from the '60's ,70's, and 80's (now retired) I can safely say this thread brings back some very fond memories. I can remember vividly doing all this stuff.

Thank you all for posting your pictures and please keep this thread alive as it puts a smile on my face every time I log in.

Thanks for the artwork! IMO, that era in race car art as well as the race car names, was the coolest ever.

Re: Leaf,Lace,Scallops and Cobwebs.

I still have a custom paint book from the 1970s that shows how to paint ribbons, freak drops, lace, and other techniques from that period. There was some sort of paint that left deep cracks in it when it shrunk, and then required a million coats of clear to fill it in. That was probably a candy paint that had severe problems, so they marketed it as a feature for custom paint jobs.

Sort of like the adhesive for post-it notes, it was supposed to be a super adhesive, but would barely hold a piece of paper. Sometimes failures have a place.

It was called "Vreeble" and Metalflake Inc sold it. You sprayed it over a metalflake base and the top coat would split and shrink. Cool effect but you could close down a paint store buying up the clear to finish it. lol

A friend of mine bought that car, and parted out the small block chevy drivetrain. Then I got the car, as a roller, from him, and we installed a 440 Mopar engine and 727, for bracket racing, in the '80's. I sold the car in 1991,when I moved to Florida. Thanks to Billy Nees, for pointing me to the pics.

My old auto shop teacher from high school owned this car for a while in the mid-1970s. I think it came out of Division 1 and was a Pro Stocker there. My friend ran in D/G with it around the Tampa Bay area then.

That's some crazy paint on that Duster, but can't quite make out what it says on the door...I presume it was running a 426 Hemi, and is the car still around.

Re: Leaf,Lace,Scallops and Cobwebs.

Yep, Prescription Hemi. Chad ran it with Hilborn injectors on a 426 Hemi in D/G. It must have had a lot of weight in it to run D/G. I don't know where the car went. He's into Lambo's and Jags now, but still plays with some Mopars. The lettering was gold leaf and looked better than that little photo indicates. Pretty psychedelic early 1970s paint.

Re: Leaf,Lace,Scallops and Cobwebs.

I remember a paint job I saw years ago(70's). It was on a convertible of some kind and appeared to have random reflections from chips of mirrors or diamonds. Car was not covered with them like flake but maybe 10 to 15 chips total that really popped when the sun hit them.

Anyone ever see anything that resembles this?
