Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
Took delivery of my COPO on Wednesday morning, a Victory Red 427 #53. The process to pick up the car in Oxford, MI was First Class in every way. The crew at Turnkey Automotive and the guys from GM made it a morning I will never forget starting with pulling the car cover off my perfectly detailed car, a very concise training and information overview and the initial start-up to move outside. From there Jim from Turnkey took me for a short drive around their industrial park demonstrating what this car was all about.........WOW! Next was a little training for my first "Launch" which made me all the more sure that this baby will be no garage queen. The boys from Erie, PA are goin' racin' come Spring. The car, the people and the overall experience has been spectacular. Thank You to all who made this project happen. Now it will be up to us to make you proud on tracks all across the USA.

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
I had the great privilege of taking delivery of and driving out of the factory the very first COPO deivered to the public.I have had a lot of great moments in my life including as an attorney arguing three cases before the United States Supreme Court the very top honor for an attorney, but I have to say as a person who grew up in the car business and as a racer for over two decades this COPO ranks right up there with the best life has given me(children wife etc excluded of course). The GM crew was the best and the car is the best of the best.As many of you know within 3 days I had it in the 8.80's,took it to Indy, won class at columbus and then ran a record setting 8.49 at 161 at Maplegrove.the car itself is a very fine piece.Yes as many know we have had some head gasket issues with the 4.0 blower but those are well on the way to being addressed.I am so happy with the car that I have requested a second one for my wife Paula who is a very good racer and the plan is for her to race a 427 in stock.Would love to race them both in Gainsville. Can't say enough about the GM team. They were there in force for us at INDY and have responded to every issue we have had since we got the car in August.Clearly we did not buy this car to let it sit somewhere. It will be raced at every major race we can get to and allow me to serve my clients and my wife to run her restaurant. One of the best car decisions I made in my life.Rock on GM and thank you.

Now use your negotiating skills to get o-ringed cylinder heads superseded & approved for the blower cars! That should take care of it. |
Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
That is in the works

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
As a quick update to a previous question, from being at GM in Oxford for my delivery early this week it looks like they will have no problem completing the full run of 2012 cars before the end of the year. We saw the last few customer cars, #'s 65, 66 & 67, well along in production. Again, the cars all look great no matter what stage in the build process you observe and no corners are cut to make these full race cars completed to show quality. GM will surely have very satisfied owners and this highly visible project should earn them some well deserved credit.

Did you happen to see #58, white 427 with blue stripes? Thanks for any info, Chuck |
Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
Yes, #58 was well underway, already over on the clean/final assembly side of the facility. Once I get my photos from the guy I had there covering my delivery I will look and see if any are of your car and get them to you. I used the guy GM hires to do the copo engine build photography, Mark Kelly of MPK photo, great guy. For $200 he shot, get ready for this, over 300 pictures of the plant and my car and the entire delivery. I'll be getting a disc to print what I want and just view the rest. Should have disc next week. Shoot me PM with your contact info and I'll see what I have.

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
This popped on my email today. #45 NA427 at Mecum Kansas City.
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=KC1212_S135.1 Interesting to see if it makes the reserve |
Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
The COPO that I bid on from Ebay didn't hit the reserve. It went up to:
US $144,995.00 and still didn't sell. Not that I have anywhere near that kind of money, lol. I'm very surprised that it bid up that high to be honest. If you have that kind of money to throw around for a 2012, then you should have the ability to make some calls to get yourself a 2013. |
Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
I was watching this one on Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...item337df34e5b It is a 427 car but sold at a lower price than some of the others are asking. Still I agree that waiting till 2013 cars are available and you will be way ahead. Prices should be realistic and the first year bugs may be worked out. |
Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
2013 are all SOLD from what I was told... List of buyers ready before they even announced the 2013 run.
|
Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
I believe that GM has not allocated the 2013 run of COPO Camaros to buyers at this point but is accepting applications from interested parties. These can easily be found at www.TheBLOCK.com in a story they did on announcing the 2013 run. I am guessing they will also be accepting these at their next big Chevrolet Performance display at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January. In addition, GM has a huge list of inquiries that were not filled for 2012 and 69 more cars for 2013 is really a small number so my guess is they will in fact sell out quickly but this selection process is not done now from what I understand. The cars are spectacular, the buyers are satisfied and next season will really be when the fun begins at the track. GM is really using this new website I referred to, TheBLOCK, to distribute COPO news so if you have interest in these cars, tune in to the latest on this very interesting site.

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
Why are they only building 69 for 2013? It seems like they have sped up the building of the cars and can finish them much quicker than the first ones that they did. Maybe they could up the production to around 100? 125?
