Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
I'm confused, are you talking about whose Copo Camaro left the GM plant first or where final assembly took place...are you talking about two different buildings
Copo Camaro #7 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ16nQF-pvQ"]Start Your Engines: The First 2012 COPO Camaros Head To Their New Owners! - YouTube[/ame] Copo Camaro #3 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W02bDhFfeBU"]The First COPO Camaro Rolls out the door!! - YouTube[/ame] In this article below it says that the first COPO Camaro's were numbers #3, #5, #7 & #9...so which car actually left the building first. https://theblock.com/news/breaking-n...maros-hit-road . |
Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
You guys are killing me. I can't believe all the interest in this topic, but here goes. There was only one delivery date and one delivery location . It was wixom. That is the plant where the engines are and when the owners arrived to sign the papers and have ownership pass to us that is where it occurred. The build group was there they turned the cars over to the public us at that time . The picture above is the black car number 3 mine going out the door first with me driving it As I think back it was lined up first to go out the door but some guys moved it to the side and pushed their car ahead to try to go out the plant door. As I think back on this I wonder if they were thinking about trying to be first. Me honestly I was not thinking about first or last I was so excited about the car first or last was not on my mind. Well as it turned out since our car was first my crew chief had already pulled my trailer up to the door so the GM guys put my car back in the first position I got in and drive it out of the factory yes factory first and that is the video you see. I am done talking about it they were delivered once the day we signed the papers and that is the above video at the wixom factory location. If anyone wants to dispute what I just said put up 10,000 cash and meet me at wixom to see if this lawyer knows what he is talking about. Enough enough enough one delivery one location one set of facts. Title passed that day and that is the day we the owners got to drive . God my arguments before the United States Supreme Court were simpler than this.

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
The future will prove that the earliest serial numbered unit will be the most desirable in this series of special vehicles. If it so happened that the owner of car #3 came to the plant to get his car two weeks after cars 4 thru 12 were delivered, it would still be THE THIRD COPO BUILT. First car to go out the door, first car to spin the tires, first car to make a pass............all very interesting but no more than that. Other collectibles, art work, etc. prove this to always be the case.

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
As a huge fan of the COPO cars - and someone who is trying to get one of the 2013s or 2014s (tried to get the 2012 also) - I have to say congrats to all who received one. Personally, I couldn't care less whose was 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or last out of the plant. It's kinda like Adam Sandler said in Happy Gilmore - "Gold Jacket, Green Jacket....who gives a *****."
But I must say my favorite of all of the cars is Mr. Cambria's. The big blower, all black, no stickers/graphics....it's just bad. ~Jeff |

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
That photo was taken at the oxford facility and those four were loaded into a trailer and shipped to the wixom facility. The cars were unloaded and placed inside the building and that is where the four were turned over to the lucky owners.

I think Garlits got Drag Pak #1 I also believe that Rick Hendrick got COPO #2 (This is the lowest numbered COPO delivered. It got a delayed delivery so that racers could get their cars for Indy.) |
Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
Yes that picture That jack posted was the day before they were delivered to the Wixon plant I actually have a picture at Wixon where they were delivered where they were the opposite the black one was first and yes it was pushed out of the first position(hmmm now that I think about this jack was there I will have to ask him if he was one of the pushers) anyway yes the video shows the Gm guys putting the car on dollies and putting it back in the first position notice it passing all the other cars and yes by God passing jack as well! This is really getting comical isn't it. Oh and you notice when I put up the 10,000 challenge old Jackie boy clammed up guess this big jerk session is over. As they say in my business I rest my case.now lets get on with some more worth while posts.

Is that a convertible in the background....... |
Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
Yes, I believe the last car is a 'Vert and it will be auctioned off.....It's orange and a 427 car I think.
|
Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
Car #69 is the Inferno Orange Convertible (3-Speed Trans), debuted at SEMA, that will be auctioned for charity Saturday night at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January. The real interesting one is Car #68.....a Black STICK SHIFT convertible with a future yet undisclosed other than the COPO book says GM ownership, no specified delivering dealer.

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
I would love to know the story on the convertibles. As the car in the background looks to be a production model does that mean that the two convertables are conversions?
|
Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
I did not know that #68 was a vert and also a stick.....If this is correct, it has replaced Cambria's as my favorite!
I have a 2011 2SS / 6 speed convertible, I love the car......A COPO version of it would be amazing! |
Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
I recently saw both convertibles. Complete convertible bodies with functional folding tops. Look to have all COPO chassis, suspension, etc mods exact to the other 67 cars. Lots of details on the Orange car in the new COPO book including photos. Also info on www.TheBlock.com back when they showed it at SEMA. And remember........you can buy the #69 car in just a few weeks in Scottsdale. As to the Black #68, who knows?

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
Mr Parker, thanks for introducing the right amount of humor this story needed. Jack thanks for the thread. I'll just wait until my insurance adjuster calls me to pick up my 2012 Camaro with damaged front end to start my new build and I promise I'll lie my arse off that it's an original 002 and was last to come out of the factory because someone wanted Obama autograph the rear bumper, after a while people start believing the story and just maybe Barrett and Jackson or Barnum& Bailey will auction it as the lost 002 to Doc Brown builder of the Flux Capacitor after I've pass on to the big strip in the sky. Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
I'm more interested/looking forward to the COPO car that will be in the winner circle first...... rather than the one that came out of production first:).

Re: Live from Oxford , MI - the Camaro COPO story - Part 3
Mike, that will be # 67 at the Winternationals
