Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
The car in question in post #73 the jerrys automotive barracuda is the David Heath driven car owned by Dr. William Pearson of Owensboro ky. . David died of cancer in the early 70's. The car was sold to Paul Lance of Boonville indiana. Since then i have no idea where it ended up. The car was painted purple at the time of purchase and i thin it came out of Georgia and it was an original factory car.

I would sure like to know the details of the picture showing the vette and the dart. It appears to be a shame that this happened to these two cars.

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
Concerning the BO29 in the falling down garage. From post #506 in the Hemi Dart topic:
From an email I received from then new owner of Dave's 'Cuda: Saturday, February 5, 2005 9:52 PM Just got back from NJ yesterday -- left on Monday from Ne. and got back Fri. 8:00 AM. While we were picking-up a 68 Cuda that I purchased, I took some pics of a 1968 AMX and a 69 Charger -- both ol' race cars. Thought I'd post them in case anyone recognized them. They've been there a LONG time. I'll post the Charger next -- Reed in Ne. Here's a shot of what happens when the owner doesn't take care of building maintenance !! The 67 Vette was a 427 tri-power/ 4-speed // the 68 SS Cuda is now here in my shop in Nebraska. It was Dave Wren's FIRST SS Cuda - been in this building since late 1969 after the owner bought the body from Sox & Martin. If you look in the S&M book at the picture inside their shop of the SuperBird, the Wren Cuda is right next to the Bird -- the original fenders and hood are still the that orange paint scheme and match the the Cuda in the picture. Its a ruff car in some ways but has a lot of good points such as 90% of the TUFF to find parts are with the car. I have most of the engine parts here already incl. NOS carbs, etc. I already bought another body to chop so we can reskin the roof and quarters. I'll post more later -- Thanks, Reed in Ne. Back on page 59(Hemi Dart topic) I think is where you will find some of the story. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/9277/p1270074.jpg http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/9069/p1270075.jpg |

M68,
The black car in #79...(#1609-SS/A)...might be Centolanza..BUT it looks an AWFUL lot like George Baptiste's car..out of the NY area.... Think he's had it a long time...and I saw it run just a few years back...is he still running it? |

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
Wow...that's an interesting story on George and his car(s)! I last saw him run the
Cuda in SS maybe 6-8-10 yrs ago...I dunno? Got a couple questions relating to BO29's...they were probably discussed some- where on here...but I don't have time to dig them out...and these are probably well-known by the MOPAR NATION..... 1.) If the original plan by Chrysler Corp. was 50 Cudas/ 50 Darts sent to Hurst... just how many BO29's ended up being built by Hurst? Is the exact number UNKNOWN? I see your research...on the original owners...in that post a while back...could the number of REAL Hurst-produced BO29's be possibly close to 80? 2.) Any guess on how many UNCUT Hurst BO29's exist TODAY? 3.) There was no other company involved in building BO29's...right? |
Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
ss wannabe
1) There were 2 runs made of the LO & BO cars. The first runs were 50 each to meet NHRA's mandate. Then Chrysler had a strike, but the orders kept coming in for them. Once Chrysler got back on line they closed the orders & completed the orders they had on hand. The general acceppted total numbers were 70 barracuda's & 80 darts 2) Uncut Barracuda's----very few. I know of only 2,but I'm sure there are a few more. 3) You are correct. Hurst was the only company that was commission by Chrysler to build these race cars. liteweight |
Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
Daryl and SS Wannabe,
I think I posted the Original Chrysler Press Release, where the original plan was to build a few more LO23 Dart's than BO29 Barracuda's. I believe it was 60 Darts and 50 Barracuda's. The NHRA originally accepted that number to qualify for Super Stock, providing that all the cars were in the hands of Drag Racers, and not sitting at Hurst. Once the Magazine's hit the stands in April 1968 with photo's of the Test Mule {Barracuda}, and next Sox & Martin, and followed by Dick Landy - All hell broke loose........:D |
Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
I believe there is an uncut car in South Central Pa. Possibly in the care and custody of the original owner.

Just spoke to Bob Carpinet. He's in the process of restoring the cuda back to as last raced in I believe late 70's. I gave him this site info & told him he should register & log on. He is going to e/m me some current pics, and I'll attempt to post them when received.
