Carl, It pains me to have to agree with 'ol 1320, LOL, but Bob's food is second to none in D1 !
A lot of his food comes in fresh from NYC. The Italian Ices are some of the best I've ever had !
You Guys should come next week when MASGA is there . .....You have'nt lived untill you've been abused by Bobby DiMino on the PA !

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

Always was the best in 2011 at Numidia...

I was in my 1st ever final with my Dad's car racing Mr. Goldman. Earl Nichols calls up to the tower and tells Bob we have a first in MASGA history. An all Jewish Final between Keister and Goldman. Well as you can tell Bob took that and ran with it, as we were putting on our helmets I hear this music playing on the PA system....I couldn't quite make it out but, after a few seconds I could hear Bob was playing Hava Nagila over the PA. The next day after Goldman beat me the Knishes were 10% off in honor of Goldman's win.

Carl if you don't come up to Numidia next weekend try to make it up for the 90 race in September. The food is great, not sure if it's as good as home but, I think everyone is keen on their own "home food" but, it's pretty darn good!

Numidia is a great place. For me the drive is rough even though I only live about 30 miles away. I go the back way through coal country and those hills are brutal on the brakes. From what I remember, the menu was a mile long at the food stand. Also super long shut down area.

Back to the topic of this thread.... Any news on fuel sales at Island? I only have 1 can of gas which won't be enough. I hope to go this weekend even if the facilities are not usable.

Last Saturday night, Bobby finds out that the Super Pro finalists agreed to a purse split. He got on the mic and made chicken bawk-bawk sounds as loud as he could, saying they were too chicken to race. I was doubled over in my trailer from laughing so hard. It was one of many classic Bobby-on-the-mic moments.

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

Being at Numidia a few times this year, I have to agree with the majority here. When you combine the purse, food and overall vibe of racing at Numidia it is very hard to beat. I had a blast there this weekend again. Big Bobby even let's me announce at times which is alot of fun. I drive there from Queens twice a month to race there. My favorite part is when he throws that surprise at you before round 1 "Racers it was supposed to be $1500 to win today but since we have a good turnout I am going to make it $2000"!

Numidia is good times and worth checking out if you haven't already. I have also raced at Island a few times growing up and it's cool to see them back in business.

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

Carl, not sure if you follow Drag Race Results but, direct from Bob:

"Maybe you can get Juliano out for Sept. I want him to try our specials, he will think he is still in Queens."

Glad to see Island open or whatever the truth is to everything on here. Last thing we want to become is like out West. I went to Firebird or Wild Horse or whatever the new name is back in 2009 and this is when they had Firebird and Tuscon back to back and even though it was an 1 1/2 drive that was the closest for them as the other tracks were 6, 7 or 12 hours away. So to have another track open and in business rather it has flaws just be glad that it's open and their not tearing it down to build townhouses that will go unsold.

Wow.......look at the s**t storm I started huh?.....lol, I never said anything bad about the food.........I just think the comparisons were just a bit exaggerated that's all, and that brings out my sarcastic sense of humor.

John and I don't have the time off that we usually had, so we have to pick and choose our dates. If we can, we will drag the Stude out in Sept and have some fun with you guys. Everyone we know spoke very highly of the race.

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

Haha Carl! No you didn't cause a s**t storm. Just having a little bit of fun as I'm in the same boat as you with getting days off. So it gets quite boring when I'm not racing. Trust me I was floored the first time also after growing up on Racetrack food that sat under a heat lamp for 2 hours. So I was quite sketchy about eating race track food again. Hopefully we'll see John and you up there in September!

Can't wait till next weekend to get me some peanut butter water ice!

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

no exaggeration here either from a few of Numidia's many happy racers from over at bracket talk...

"great food, great racers, and the best ownership and management in Div 1. Its the place to be!"

"Numidia Dragway is the best track out there. I drive over 3 1/2 hours to get there. Great bunch of racers there, great ownership and the best food. I try to go twice a month. I will be there this weekend, double points weekend and makes a great weekend and well worth the ride. Numidia, the restrooms are as clean as a 5 star restaurant. They have fuel and the water works."

"Bob on the Mic is worth the price of admission!"

"come join the fun, great food, macys fireworks !! and the best place to race in div 1 !!!"

and from "bigballs" himself Bob Dimimo..."Come compete with the best, at the best track, see a great firework show, funny cars and you all know about the food and ices. Why go any where else."

never been there in the over 20 years I raced at Island. That said, must be something in the water over there, those that have running water;) 15 - 20 of us spent many a night and many $ patronizing Luigi's Ranch-O, about 1 mile down the road past hot dog johnny's on route 46 in Belvidere until they blocked the 1st entrance to their parking lot that made for easy and out of the way trailer parking. I told them without it, we couldn't park and apparently they didn't care.

I used to stop at Hot Dog Johnny's as a kid, on the way to the Delaware Water Gap with my family in the late 50's - early 60's. I live in Michigan now, took my wife there when I brought her home to meet my family. It's usually our last stop in Jersey when we head back to Michigan.

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

The Island Dragway bashing is getting old, Noone HAS to go there, its just another option to someone who wants to go racing, Any time a racetrack closes anywhere, its no good, so Im glad they are reopening and hope they do well.
Im very glad that Numidia has a great drag program, but theres one thing that has been left out. Bob does not need the racetrack to make money, And Im sure Ed will tell everyone since he only speaks the truth, that there were times that Bob payed more out than the track brought in when he was building up his program. He uses the track as a writeoff for his multi million dollar company with NYC buses. And that's a good thing for the racer who goes there. but its not real life for the person who has to make a living running a racetrack. Im sure there are many people on this site who go to racetracks that are mom and pop tracks, and that's what island dragway is, not a multi million dollar super complex that runs motorcross, road courses, gokarts etc. like raceway park, or have an owner that likes to run a racetrack as a hobby, and if it makes money great, but of not, that's fine too.
I commend Bob for what he has done at Numidia, but that doesn't mean I want island to become a memory.

X3. The economics of driving 3 to 4 hrs one way for a bracket race doesn't work for everybody. Sometimes people Only have the time to drive an hr or so to a race and spend the time to race.
The situation at Numidia is awesome, other than its 3hrs plus from my house. Maybe Bob can buy Atco or Raceway. That would be sweet.
Good to see Island back, I hope it is there to stay. Nice to have 3 tracks back in Nj

A. how would you know about Bob's business plan and finances? Are you his partner or accountant?
B. when was the last time you raced at Numidia?
C. when was the last time you raced at Island?
D. when was the last time you race anywhere?

Cant we keep this somewhat civil?

Everybody knows what a great track Numidia is, and nobody cares why or how. If you are lucky enough to race there, then thats great.

Re: ISLAND DRAG-WAY..Hackettstown NJ-Good news.

Thanks Ed for looking out for me. That is one of the many reasons I love Numidia Dragway, the racers up there are very loyal. 1347, I don't know where you got your information, but you are way and out of line. I know I don't know you so I think you should think before you post. You are correct I own 6 Bus Companies in 3 States and make plenty of money. I also 4 other businesses that also make money. Not including Numidia. Which happens to be my favorite. When I purchased Numidia it was in almost as bad shape that Island is in. I don't care if Island is open or closed. NHRA could not wait for me to close the deal, it could not happen fast enough. I purchased it and put a ton of money in it. I do not use it for a right for any of my companies or myself. The track turns a big profit every year, so where is the right off. I lost money the first year and a half, then it turned around. Do you know what GUARANTEED means. That is the key. No car counts, no small print. I put the concrete barriers in first. NHRA asked for that. Why, because they are safe, not like the steel ones at Island. Next concrete to the 1/8, extended the shutdown, sand trap and net. Many other things to many to list. If Island can't do that, then they are wasting there time. I raced there for over 15 years and I can tell you that Cathy and Tony would ask Duke to come over and throw me out for some bull crap. Treated me and many others that way. That is why they are done. You can ask Duke. A good paying customer with 4 cars. I don't want to go there now, I wish Melissa luck, but she needs about $ 1,500,000. To turn the place around. I know because I did it at Numidia. I don't know you but I think you should tell me who filled you with that bull crap. As for the guy who seconded it, I know him and maybe he should spend less time on these sites and put more time into his business. Ed runs with us, yes he does speak his piece, but he always speaks the truth. Keep it up Ed. Just for the record, I,am self made and never asked any one for anything. If your going into business, never, never ask any one for money (donations) or offer there services to clean up to get it going. That is just my advice. So now is the time to reveal this mystery person who gave you that false information.

Bob,
I'm sorry if you took offense to anything I said, but except for the statement that the racetrack was a writeoff, I sort of said what you did, that losing money when you opened wasn't gonna make you bankrupt, where with island it could, and that everyone that races there has nothing but good things to say. I was planning to try to make it up there to your track this year, but since I offended you, I'm assuming you'd rather not have me there, so my apology

Rich, let me tell you why we are loyal to Bob

4 years ago, Sunday June 14th, Rick Constable asked me to go to Numidia with him on a Sunday for Summit points race. I hadn't been to Numidia since the early 90's and my last time there/first time there I won "Heavy" Eliminator. Later that morning Rick and I are in the lanes and Bob came over and thank us for coming. Much to my surprise, Bob, knew my name, knew I had sold my Chevelle and knew I had bought the Firebird. I was surprised because frankly Bob and I never really talked back in the day when he raced at Island. Maybe a hello on occasion because he pitted across from us. Rick won that day and so did my son.

http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps5b788aee.jpg

http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/o...dia6-14-09.jpg

The point is Bob is a racer as well business man and truly appreciative of his racers/customers and from my observations, he treats everyone that comes in the gate like family. I know he has me and my son, quite the opposite of what I, he and many others experienced at island over a great many years.

Thank you again Bob and thank you Rick. Miss you buddy.

Ed I think of Ricky all the time......and especially when I walk past where he lived and worked,,,,,,and the place where he was stricken...

A damn shame someone who lived for nothing but racing was struck down at a young age,,,,,,

One of my last memories of him was him patting me on the back for getting down to 3 cars at Islands Wally race last year...He said,,,"not bad for a part time racer",,,,,, Sure made me feel good after a tough loss....

He was a hard working great guy.

He was Rich. I'm a bracket racer today because of him and I race at Numidia because of him.

He didn't know it and neither did we until he was gone but he was also the glue that held our group together.

See you Saturday.
