Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
I met Scott years ago when I answered an add for a truck he was selling. I made a comment about how he had the same last name of a certain multi-time stock champ, he laughed and said thats my brother. He took me racing, introduced me to many racers, got me involved with the SSSSA. He was, and will always be a great friend. We talked months ago about his new job, he was more excited than a 5 year old at Christmas about his new job, told him he had a place to stay if he was in Las Vegas.
I will miss Scott. |

I am in utter shock :( our S/SS brother Scott is gone. Just read this morning and will obviously effect me more as the day goes on. Kevin, you and the family are in my prayers, along with the Teutons and the rest of the gang from my old stomping grounds. This is when we all realize we're family....brothers from different mothers. Scott you will be sorely missed. RIP big guy.

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
Spoke to Kevin. He has gotten numerous calls and texts, but is in a weak area around where Scott lived. Scott had the surgery Tuesday and seemed to have maybe more pain than one would normally associate with that procedure. He will be buried in Florida after an autopsy which is being done in New Orleans. There will be a memorial on Saturday afternoon at No Problem Raceway. Kevin plans on having Scott's car there as well as other memory things. Probably cook something and celebrate Scott's life. As the details fall in place, we will keep everyone informed. Scott was 50 years old.

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the kind words, well wishes, and prayers for our family. It was so special reading and showing others the stories and responses here on Class Racer. All of the stories, thoughts and prayers mean so much to our family and being able to read them, remember and laugh with all of you is such a blessing during this very difficult time so KEEP THEM COMING!
OK, so here is the game plan for the Louisiana celebration for Scooter's ("Uncle Duck", Scott, fatboy, Gator Champ 2009 etc...) life: This Saturday, June 15th at 5:00 pm at No Problem Raceway's Red Line Sports Bar. We will have some cajun cuisine and a discounted cash bar.(Bring a dish-desert- if you like.)We hope to see you there! We will have Scotts car , trophys, pictures, tell some lies ,half truths and jokes as he would have wanted it. We are still working on the Florida celebration of life but we do know that the visitation and services will be held at First Baptist Church of Plant City - (503 N. Palmer St. Plant City, FL 33563) and the graveside will be at Hopewell Memorial Gardens in plant City (6005 State Road 39 South Plant City, FL 33567) - the dates are undetermined at this point. |

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
Prayers coming from the Buckner boys and family. Scott was a stand up guy, always upbeat and smiling. I first met him at the red line sports bar in Belle rose, had a few drinks, told a few lies. From there on out, every time I saw him it was like we were best friends. Glad I got to share those great times with him, and I know the celebration at Belle rose is exactly how he would want it. Rest in peace friend and God bless the Helms family.

Gods Speed Scott, Scooter, Fat Boy...
Mrs. Pat, and Kevin. You and your family will be in our prayers. As it has been said here over and over, if you ever met Scooter you had a friend for life... Putting up with the '09 Gators Stock Champ, and racing with him in our Southern Stock/Super Stock Assc was a blast until moved off to be part of the Southland group. Scott you will be greatly missed by us all. Keith and Terri |

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
Scott worked for himself out of my shop when he first came to houma and we became friends.he was a HARD worker and could work on anything from motorhomes to lawnmowers.he loved his family most of all kevin and his mom and sister.he talked about them all of the time.he worked for the southland group then on to O'Reilly auto parts group where he quickly made it to store manager.life was just starting to turnaround till his passing.i talked to scott sunday at the track i never thought it would be my last. this is so sad for his family and friends.but look on the bright side he and tim are resting now after they both worked so hard.and like i want to think god had a misson for him. RIP SCOTT.you were one of a kind.

We met Scott at the 2006 Bradenton LODRS after Jim Marshall won stock. He introduced us to Bubba Burgers. Never forget how hard he partied and shared his food and drink. RIP Scott! We only met you that one weekend, but it left a lasting impression! Our prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
What a sad day for the racing family. Scott was one of the most passionate people about class racing that I have ever met, no matter what class he was running. Always looking ahead and wanting to enjoy some time racing and doing what he loved. I am sure glad I got to catch up with him at Belle Rose this year, and listen to his plans about future racing. Kevin- he was your biggest fan and always made it known to everyone how proud of you he was. Very sorry for your loss and rest in peace Scotty.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Helms family.
Kevin I know what your going through. It was hard for a few years knowing that the one that pushed you harder to be the best you can be at racing is gone. The one that you had so many tough and exciting times with. The fire inside me was gone. I didn't wanna race anymore, I didn't wanna be at the track because he wasn't there. My inspiration on who I wanted to better was gone. It took me three years to finally be comfortable at the track. Now my passion is back and I'm trying to be the best I can be. Words are only part of the healing. It's the memories that will carry you on. I know this was off topic, but losing a brother is hard to imagine. Koppien Family. |
