Maybe they can get the Kardashians licensed for the nitro classes. Just think of all the interest they would bring to NHRA drag racing! lol |
Re: Big Chief DQ
You guys are hilarious. I guess I might be "part of the problem" because I look at it like this. I bet there was some people there this weekend just to see him so what IF just one of those people take an interest in one of the classes that we run? Whether it be SS/Stk or one of the the Super classes, just what if. So in my opinion he was out there promoting drag racing unlike all the negative finger flapping on the internet that's going on here.

I’m gone. Nothing screams sphincter like a flat-bill ball cap pulled down over the ears. |

Post #68 is good, BF is mad because Chief has all Pontiac and won't let him touch it.

Re: Big Chief DQ
Anybody who thinks "big chief" or anyone else is going to bring fans to watch NHRA drag racing needs to shut off their TV.

Re: Big Chief DQ
I think you're wrong Jerry with you're comment "Anybody who thinks "big chief" or anyone else is going to bring fans to watch NHRA drag racing needs to shut off their TV." NHRA racing is not drawing spectators or viewers like it once did at all events so even if the team only brought a few more spectators it sure as hell couldn't hurt. I would think that from what people say about t-shirt sales, etc. group may prove you wrong on your comment.Racing needs all the spectators it can get and maybe, just maybe a few more fans were garnered for all of drag racing? Maybe, just maybe your next points meet might have a few new faces brought to you courtesy of Big Chief. JMT.

Re: Big Chief DQ
Ron that would be cool, however when Street Outlaws runs it course, Big Chief's 15 minutes of fame will be over.
|
Re: Big Chief DQ
I wouldn't doubt it one bit Jerry and you know it's just a fad but let's hope we gain a few more spectators while it's on.
|
Re: Big Chief DQ
If he is or is going to be associated with NHRA, how can he continue the street racing show? It wasn't long ago that NHRA threatened revocation of their competition license against anyone on the show that had any sign of NHRA affiliation and kept participating on the TV show.

I don`t think Chief`s fans will necessarily embrace S/SS. NHRA won the day by taking him off the street and having him promote their organization. I think most of Chief`s fans like the whole outlaw TV drama. We need a TV producer to believe in S/SS racing...:) Mike A114 P/SA |

I'm pretty sure there is big money to be made by letting a film crew follow Mickey Whaley around!

Re: Big Chief DQ
His fifteen minutes of fame, etc. may be over but if sportsman racers get one more new fan what the hell have you got lose? How many of you racers have spent time cultivating fans? How the hell do you think you or NHRA/IHRA will ever gain more fans and spectators if you sit inside your same old box doing the same old ****? Come on. What got most of you younger racers into Stock/ Superstock? How many new racers came from sources other than your dad raced and you got hooked by being active with your dad or family? I'm damn near sixty and when I stared there wasn't much else to start out in like there is today. I've spent time with people who looked at my car and couldn't understand how it ran as quick as it did with so much OEM old school carb, intake, etc. Getting spectators engaged will gather new fans but racers have to get involved and promote. JMT.

Re: Big Chief DQ
I don't blame the guy one bit for capitilizing while he can. And when the dust settles he'll have been compensated nicely.
Good for him. |
Re: Big Chief DQ
Some people get it and some people don't. I watch the show and I enjoy it. It's about fast cars and car guys hanging at each other's shops talking about racing. What's not to like. Don't be so sure Big Chief won't be around for a long time, he's already been around longer than 15 minutes. The show is getting ready to start its 8th season and he is getting bigger and bigger. I kind of see him as a modern day John Force.

You haters do realize they are racing in a controlled environment, not on open public streets, don't you? Yes they play like they are doing something wrong but everyone should know by now what is really going on. Do you really think law enforcement would allow this to continue if it was really "illegal street racing"? He's taking advantage of a situation he has been put in with the TV deal. He'd be a fool not to take advantage of his 15 minutes of fame. |

Another thing to consider, with all that money he made this week selling shirts he probably earned enough to buy a few more tenths. I think he will be back and if he brings some followers along to our events, I say kudos to him. Still think Mickey would make a better show though! |

No sleep till brooklyn I will do a show but coot you and cy have to be in charge of payments and make sure they can stay up for 48 hours

Re: Big Chief DQ
Somebody splain to me how a supposed stock blocked Pontiac with "Eldabrock" heads can go 6.30 something at over 220 with a Turbo or who knows what else and live for more than 1 run......?
I am a Skeptic...... Pontiacs ain't known for their longevity or ability to stay in one piece for very long and make more than Street car or Stocker type Horsepressure... Da Chief said he had a Stock Block Pontiac and he might want to say Mr. Edelbrocks name right...... It's like when someone says GARTLITS.... |
Re: Big Chief DQ
I don't think it's actually a "stock block". I think it's probably a Jim Butler Performance block.

Heard it was a after market block also. Also heard it had a oiling, bearing problem and he took it to Reher Morrison and they had it fixed in no time.
|
Re: Big Chief DQ
That is what makes the 6.36's impressive, he is doing that with a real underdog engine for the class. Probably has valve 1/4" smaller than anyone else, ports half the size and may even be the only non-billet block and heads there.
. Spreading the gospel of legal drag racing isn't a bad thing, |
Re: Big Chief DQ
I taped the race and look forward to watching qualifying. I watched elims earlier on fast forward. Great to see the hemi challenge final and the factory super car final.
Great to see big chief doing it old school and against the odds with real Pontiac power. We were racing the yellowbullet nationals and had a great time too. It's great to see the drag race gospel being spread to new fans. Win win situation for sure Chris |
