Lots of stockers rumbling around in the pits getting ready for the first run of the "Big Go" 2017!!! We begin at 8:30 followed by FS/XX!!! Should be about 65 when we start running!

8:04 a.m. local time and Brian Lohnes delivers the words we've all waited almost a year to hear.

"Welcome to the 63rd Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals Stock Eliminator to the lanes for qualifying."

As noted above, it's a pleasant 65 degrees and there's hardly a cloud in the sky. We should be underway shortly.

Thanks Kevin. That was an awesome article on one of the greatest pieces in drag racing history. For someone to run the same car and be as competitive as they've been with it for 50 years is nothing short of amazing.

If it were D3TV it would be working but the All Access (audio only) we pay for is not as usual.

Maybe they did not know there was a race to day.

I watched it count down to zero twice now - but it is counting down again -- maybe if All Access had a single racer working for them they would get it right - now says 10a EDT. They probably do not know racing starts at 8a for most of the people who stupidly sign up.

I didn't realize "live audio" is now a pay for deal. I understand sort of having to pay for live streaming video but not audio. In the past audio was free to members. This stinks that even when you pay for it, it doesn't work!! Every other hi profile drag racing event has FREE live streaming video. All I want to do is listen to cars going down the track on my computer at work. NHRA really dropped the ball on this. You get so much for your membership dues, NOT!!!

I bought the live access for the weekend, and the audio is horrible, hoping they fix it, I think it goes to video also tomorrow at some point

156 stockers made the 1st run. Going by the indexes that were put up on the board, there were 10 A/SA cars and 11 B/SA. We had issues with our 2 step again and Travis Hess was timed out. They were showing Wann and Shaul both in AA/SA. There were quite a few cars that were in the wrong classes, so it might take a while to get the times up on DRC. At least 40 cars were a second under. Lots of red lights, but it is only qualifying!!

FS/XX had 21 cars. Barton was quickest at 8.15 @ 164

Random observations:

Barton's early numbers were strong. He was 5.19 to the 1.8th. far quicker than anyone else

Turk's Mopar has top speed currently at 165.70

Leah Pritchett's Mopar struggled to do a burnout. She got the car to leave, but ir ran 8.516.

Currently 21 cars on the sheet. The Elite cars (Patterson, Enders) both no shows.

A little warm out there now, but it's still a great day for a drag race.

Gary Summers and Brian Seaburg (U/SA) are second and third 13.269 and 13.508

Will anyone go 1.60 under?? Stand by boys and girls, this could get interesting. Remember Larry Hill and his truck a few years ago - 2+ under.

Huge wheelstand for Gus Mantas' SS/AH Hemi Barracuda during SS Q1.

Also...

At least 15-20 photographers on the starting line during the first round of Stock qualifying (at 8:30). Got to think the Factory Stock cars have something to do with it.

Personal opinion. This is a great time for Stock and Super Stock racing. The mix of old iron and new technology is awesome. I don't want this to turn into a debate over indexes/factors/rules, but from the point of view of a spectator who loves high performance automobiles, it doesn't get any better than this.

Yes, you can. You might have to wait until the weekend is over to listen to/watch a different days coverage, but if you're watching same day, you can back up and watch when you can.

They didn't start the audio until after Stock Q1, and it does have problems at times, but it sounds good to me too.
