I'd would want this back in it's SS/AX trim!
That and any of the cars mentioned earlier! Even the new Factory Stockers. Of course I would get a driver for the real races. I think that I know one close....

New School: 2015-16 Cobra Jet 429 'Ninja' and a stick for FS/B

Old School: Can't decide between a Boss 429 Mustang for A/S, Boss 302 Mustang for F/S, 68 Cougar GT-E 427 for C/S, or 67 Shelby GT-500 for A/S. If I had to pick one, maybe a '69 Boss 302 in Calypso Coral just like my dad's!

Nick, unfortunately, the 68 GTE Cougar 427 is automatic only. I think the Boss 302 would be a cool, but pricey build, funny that the Boss 302 came with a larger carb than the Boss 429!

Some day I'll finish mine........67 Shelby GT500 B/SA - AA/SA
Don't make the mistake I did of building it from scratch. going to have to dip in the 401K to finish it.

the 428 would be my choice if doing a 68 GTE. they built 37 of them with 428's and 3 of those were 4 speeds. All 357 built with the 427 were automatics.

Jim Parson's 1966 Nova... Four speed, runs in the 10's and does wheelies.

SS/AM Challenger w/V10 and a 5speed liberty. That would be fun and different!

Since the Z-11 '63 Impala is not allowed in Stock, I think my dream Stocker would be the 430hp 427 Big Block '63 Impala. But really, any X-Frame Chevy would do...:p

If pressed to do a non-GM car, a '67 Fairlane 2dr. sedan, 427/410 with an automatic would be my hands down choice. White with blue interior would be a must. ;) -Al

Re: What is your dream S/SS car?

They both already exist, or in the case of one, existed.

Jimmy Bridges' Corvette in Super Stock (any of the rectangle port big blocks will do), and Harry Vineyard's 69 Chevelle 427/425 in Stock.

Whoops, my mistake! That would be a very cool racer, but unfortunately they're not cheap...Even though I'd be just fine with a replica too.

Re: What is your dream S/SS car?

The guide mentions the 427 Z-11,rates it at 430 horse, but it doesn't specify anything about the aluminum fenders, bumpers, inner fenders or hood. Does that imply that it would be OK to put that Z-11 engine in a conventional steel bodied Impala 2 dr.HT?The aluminum parts would be the real killer as to the expense of such an operation, also, the Z-11 heads and intake would be a real search. The Z block was the same as the 409, so building that would be more of a possibility, although the crank would have to be a custom stroker type of thing, as it had a longer stroke exclusive to that engine, 3.650" as opposed to the 3.500" stroke of the 409. You wouldn't want to get an original car and go to work modifying it because of the cost and the originality factor. I believe all the VIN's are accounted for even though all the cars built then were not. Try the 348/409 Forum on line for some good Z-11 info. What a search for parts this thing would entail!

I know that I am lucky because I have my dream race car, a C/SA Max Wedge '64 Plymouth Savoy station wagon. It's not the fastest in it's class but not the slowest. My partner and I built it from a tired old 318 powered driver that I bought for $900 in 2000 or so.

Yep, if one was building a Z-11 Impala the starting point should definitely be a standard Impala and not a factory Z-11 model. That 348/409 Forum is indeed a great site, while rebuilding my '60 Impala street car (Even though it only has 283) I even had an account there, just haven't logged in for a while...

That is a very cool car, but definitely out of my budget range. :(

1968 Cougar or Mustang, my high school dream car, with the 427 FE engine. I think its a "W" code car.

Back in the early 70s, in the "gas station" days, a young lady used to bring one in for service. 68 Cougar, triple black, 427/c-6. I remember it not being the easiest car to change plugs in.

Dream car? .9 - 1.0 under in 3000' air, wheelies, low maintenance, "cool" factor (60s or 70s car), consistent, cuts good lights even if the driver sucks, and hell, since this is a dream, do it all for under $20K!

Wild Bill I can relate!!! Had a guy around the same time with a big block mustang that was just a ball buster, anyway we had the motor out for what ever reason and I thought that I could fix his SHIIITT so I used the impact to install his spark plugs on driver side with motor on stand, I was so happy!!! Well some time had pasted and he was back, He stated that he was so pleased with the way the car ran after I had worked on it that he would only let me tune the bitch up, OH well, needless to say I couldn't believe this was happening.I can honestly say that CROW does not taste good!!!
