George, thanks so much for the video. Super Stock is done with Q1, Stock has been called to the lanes for Q2, Super Gas is running now. The weather has gone from slow to slower. Any Super Stocker that ran good in Q1 has a stout piece. The DA was around 4000ft when Super Stock ran.

Some Super Stock action Q1. How about Bucky Hess and his Hemi Barracuda.

Am I seeing things or does this mustang have a 5 speed?

Looks like the AHFS system has been working as designed all these years to bring the HP rating inline. What a joke.

I believe the rule is dependent on what gearbox speeds the street version would have-5 or 6 in a newer Mustang? I am only a fan as well, good question--Experts?

Re: “Live” from US Nationals 2018

You can have as many forward speeds as the car came from the factory

Examples for stickshifts

69 camaro 4 speed

99 camaro 6 speed , but you do not have to use all 6 you can run a 4 or even 5 speed if you like.

Re: “Live” from US Nationals 2018

Notes from today

Lots of sand from recent sealing of asphalt in staging.

The street car 2015 cameros are for real. Taylor, Stephenson and Brannon are for real. Who knows how fast they can go.

Lots of cars spun, especially Q2.

B/SA is brutal. We’re qualified 40 at 1.05 under, and are only 5th of 14.

Steve Wann is flying. Gove is close in A/SA, but spun bad q2.

D/sa is interesting, many fast folks there and close together.

his engine combo 2012 coyote is actual legal to run a 6spd but Jericho or gforce does not make a 6spd ..so George runs the 5spd

Re: “Live” from US Nationals 2018

7:30 a.m. Walking the dog at home (2 miles from the track) and I can hear the rumble of Stockers filling the lanes.

7:57 a.m. First pair on the starting line (got to love on-time starts)

Weather is quite a bit better than yesterday although there is still a bit of a head-wind.

A few early runs:
Todd Hoven goes 9.82 that should be enough to get the big Hemi into the show (88-under)

England's Nic Williams spun the tires and slowed to a 10.07. Last I checked he was outside the quick 128.

Gary Summers 13.00 in U/S that's -.164.

Early contender for wheelstand of the day? Francois Periard's big B/SA Road Runner or maybe even Ken Miele's Cobra Jet.

Also, probably 100 or so folks in the stands enjoying the cool morning air. They're getting a great show so far. If you don't enjoy days like this, you're in the wrong sport.

More later...

Stock is done with Q3, Super Gas is running now, Comp will follow. Stock class has been called to the lanes. The weather is great today with many picking up a dime, although some picked up way more. B/SA looks like the class to be in with 14, but C/SA also looks great.

John DiBartolomeo, Drag Racing Edge Magazine sent me some great actions shots...

Question: In the event of only one car in a combo, does the single car have to go -.50 under at some point during qualifying/class runoffs to receive the class win?

I think you just have to run the index. Not sure I`ve ever seen singles in Stock Auto or Stick at Indy.
