Re: U/SA
Hi Bob! I hope all is well.
I have the car, it's a really nice "little old lady" car. I really don't want to "cut-it-up". I can tell you that, if need be, I won't show up with a 6 cyl. Nova! |
Re: U/SA
Jack,
Assuming Tyler and co. have their race again next year @ St Louis, could he accommodate another category? Seems to me , you'd need a CIC program. 1.00 second under trigger? Thoughts? |
Re: U/SA
Just curious, is a 1999 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 straight 6, 2wd worth putting time, effort or money into for a stocker?
|
Re: U/SA
I would say yes! BUT first get perfectly clear confirmation from NHRA, is it a car or is it a truck? It's listed in the guide under trucks.
|
Re: U/SA
I still have the Bob Shaw Cadillac. I could bring it back next year. It’s turn key

I thought I was pretty fast until the final round of the U/SA shootout. Then I had Bob Shaw.

Re: U/SA
Is there a Bottom Stock factor? Can I call a friend to ride along in a Q/SA.

Re: U/SA
Ok guys n gals, so Since about 2005, I have not driven a car down a track. Nor have I kept up racing, so what's the story behind a U/SA shootout?
__________________ James "jim" Garey Not sure, but I think this is what happened. In 2002 Pat Joffrion held the first Cajun Sports Nationals for sportsman racers, no pros or alky cars, at his track No Problem Raceway, which was the name on his race cars. There was chatter on here about which cars were going to be fast and a couple of us U car guys talked about going and then there were a couple more and somehow the U/SA shootout was presented. Couple of people threw up some incentives and then more got going. It was fun, a shootout amongst slugs, it was on The U/SA Shoot Out. More sponsors came on board and Pat put all of us together in our own separate pit area. Bob Shaw put together sports shirts for us and I believe the purse got up to a grand. You can check a previous post from back then for the results titled "what really happened at Belle Rose" |

Re: U/SA
just remembered there was this one guy who built a 70 AMC matador just for the shootout Bruce Fulper . (who has never done me wrong) is barred off this forum ... he was also after tueton to put up $100 win $50Ru
i think hes still got a matador :) anyway we need a location and not any nhra race with the Automatic Help For Slugs (AHFS) in effect unless we go maybe on friday night as a seperate race ?? i have good relationship with D3 and Beech Bend / has open with class but its awful early unless 2025 ? if there isnt already a class race we be a pain in the *** ... vegas has a oddball divisional or open race that runs class i think ?? any ideas ?? like to try to double what 2005 paid was $500 / $200 plus some gift cards sooo shooting for a $1000 USA payday > so skip and all you FFFFord guys start drooling :))) |

Re: U/SA
I’d like to see this race happen. I’ll put up $100 tow money for any and all U/SA racers with 1000 miles or more tow (one way). I hope to be at the race, but if not, contact me after the race with your address.

78 Aspen SE wagon = Probably not the best but it is what is in my garage. Paul Wong would be the best guy to ask on what is the better combo. |
Re: U/SA
Cap'n ,
If you remember, the Madison double div. started on Wednesday, rather that a T&T that day. Would have been a great day for mini-shootout. Or Maybe they would consider a Monday T&T , plus our deal. Are you working thru Tyler for that date? If not, who's the contact? We might want to play there, but not much farther, than that, if you want to pull from 5, 6 ,and 7. Can we tentatively agree on a 1 second under CIC in place? (for those truly interested in being involved?) |
Re: U/SA
Did you see news today Laris Cajun Sports National at No Problem Raceway in March 2024. Might be a good place for U/SA shootout
|
Re: U/SA
That would be fantastic, where it all started. How can you not like the idea.

Now, if I was going to drive 1500 miles, I'd rather be in St.Louie , with a Nat, double Div,. and a money race, all in the same week. Plus, I hear there are a few new ones being built , and they probably won't be ready early in the year. ;-) |

Re: U/SA
Ron tell them how much fun you had last time.

Re: U/SA
The most fun time racing was at the inaugural Cajun Sportsnationals in 2004. Pat Joffrion knew how to put on a race. Here are some of the fun factors,
A bar at the bottom of the tower so you can watch the races in the A/C. A private Corral for the U/SA competitors. Live bands. Killer crawfish boil with all the fixins put on by Laris Insurance. CIC race within. Bottle of water after time trials at the ET booth. Showers and TV room for the racers. Track hooks. Hanging out with any of them Cajun folks. No pro cars. Gift bags at the scales. Racing afoot late at night, track still hooks. The fans are great. Concession food really good along with the food vendors. Track workers do a fine job. Being able to watch the races from the wood constructed elevated covered private pit area for track champion. Being able to go into town and stop at a place that has soul food & daiquiri's drive thru. Warning, the Budweiser cans are only 10 ounces. The school bus ride. There was this one famous racer from them parts that could imitate a pro stock bike to perfection, can't remember his name but he was part of the school bus scene, may he RIP. We just had a blast at this race, so many good times in one weekend.Great people all around. No curfew. |
Re: U/SA
And Jeff Tueton took us on a swamp tour and there was peach moonshine and alligators.
|
Re: U/SA
Quite possibly the greatest race ever!
|
Re: U/SA
Bar at base of tower was the best. Cheap booze, race reruns, air, picture widow to watch races.
Joe T swamp tour, yes on the peach moonshine. Felt like we were treatment the best anyone could treated. Tracks was great. No way i can get my olds done in time and be that competitive to make the trip from Az |
Re: U/SA
You have to be competitive to go? Heck, I went when I knew Bob Shaw was going to be there and a host of slow rockets. The adventure was well worth it.
