Re: Original hemi dart information

Thanks for the info but like I said the info on this car is somewhat sketchy. The Black Dart in FL (w/ Johnny Rivers paperwork - froom VanDyke Dodge in MI) I am familiar with. This car appears to be a re-body (I have seen the car in person) and in my research I have been told that before FL it was in MN and before that Galena, IL and I belive it was in CA before that - not sure where before that. I belive that the paperwork for this car is incorrect - it does not appear to be real. I have many copies of order forms and dealer paperwork on these cars and this one is nothing like the original copies that I have on file - I cannot prove this but.... This could be the Rivers car- just have no way to prove it.
I know for fact that White Bear Dodge ordered a Hemi Dart in 1968 (from factory paperwork) - I also have an ad where White Bear was selling the Landy 67 440& hemi Coronets as well as the Landy 68 440 Dart that they had purchased from Dick himself!

It seems to me I have heard something about the Eddie Anderson Dart - do you have any additional information? Was this a factory car?
Thanks,
Mark J

I remember a lot of the 68 Cudas and Darts at Blaney Drag Strip,Mid Carolina Drag Strip and Jackson Drag Strip all in South Carolina.Some of them were City Dodge Dart of Barnett Brothers,Melvin Yow,El Toro Dart of Clyde Curtis,Max Hurley Dart,Bill Tanner Dart.Sam Caroll Straw Boss Cuda,Orange Crate Cuda.There are some pictures on the web of a WCS race at Blaney that have a lot of the late SS,early Pro Stock Hemis.I had some pictures my father took at Jackson but I can't find them.

Daryl,
The McCollum Dart is unaccounted for - was changed to a 70 model for P/S - last known in TX in the early 70's.

That's my car. Owned by Richard Boyd in Nova Scotia at the time your pics were taken. He got it from someone in Quebec ...I posted pics of the ads Boyd bought it thru in the Canadian Old Car Trader a long time ago in this thread. This is the car we figure is Gene O'Neill's (Worcester, Massachusettes)originally. First run VIN stick car.
Boyd traded it to John Brown in Pennsylvania for a hemi cuda. From there it went to Spurlock's in TN and a couple more collectors before I got it. I still have the funny steel plate that was hanging under the trunk pan protecting the centrifical fuel pumps that were hung there @ somewhere. When you dig thru all of the layers of paint on the car you find the first coat of paint is candy tangerine. I've found this on several areas of the car.
When John Brown had it he ran it at a Chuck Smith Supercar Showdown at Quaker City Raceway Ohio. There are videos being sold of these Showdowns back then but I can't find one for the year this car was there. It did have John Brown's name on the side of the car and some dodge dealership.

Moose,

I called Bill Stiles,,,,,,No Answer,,,:confused:

In an article, Bill Stiles stated that he sold his BO29 Hemi Barracuda
for $8000 in 1973.

With;
* a prepped 727 Automatic transmission and a couple of converters,
* a Click-Shift Manual transmission, and Hurst shifter
* a couple of clutch packages
* 2 back-up sets of prepped Cylinder heads
* a complete back-up Hemi short-block
* a set of new pistons and rings
* plus a trunk-load of related parts

Originally Rich Thomas' SS/B car (out of Missouri)

Ricj had '3' different paint schemes.

This was the last paint scheme, before he sold it to Reuben Pribyl.
Reuben took off Rich Thomas Racing, and had his name lettered in the same spot on the door.

I believe Rich sold the car at the end of the 1971 racing season.

Not to be mistaken for Billy 'The Kid' Stepp's car.

Yes Reuben Pribyl's 68 Hemi Barracuda is the ex-Rich Thomas 68 Hemi Barracuda, notice the same molded rear spoiler on it and I believe it was a 4-speed car originally...see the for sale sign on the side window.

This should shed some light on the Dick Landy questions,
concerning his 'First LO23 Hemi Dart',

The 'first' race for his 'first' LO23 Hemi Dart (SS/BA)

March 23-24, 1968
(Which was listed as an NHRA Regional Event)

Sorry dude, lite is still kinda dim. The only reason this car competed for that race was because the stick car was currently being built / converted in his shop & wasn't ready.

These VIN #'s are off Landy's two Hemi Dart's that I gave you several months ago, there's an 8 digit gap between his two cars.

I recall reading in a old Hot Rod magazine and that they wouldn't allow him to race until 50 units were built...it also showed a small photo of the car.
