Gary Brooker - 29 May 1945 – 19 February 2022
We're very sad to announce the death of Gary Brooker. The single defining constant of the band's fifty-year career, Gary's voice and piano playing was legendary and he leaves behind a legacy that will last for generations. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Sad Two-fer Tuesday for sure... RIP , soul man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMid4AV-6x4 (featuring another genius on the Hammond B-3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y80dD9sy0h8 |

Re: Musical Tastes
Often overlooked as one of the founding fathers of R&R, due to his short life, is Eddie Cochran.. At about 1:50 in this clip, he can be seen looking to the heavens in tribute to his good friends ,Richie Valens and Buddy Holly.. He was an inspiration to thousands of young and up coming musicians . One being Brian Setzer, who played him in the Valens movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdWwmiOWNEQ This video is a song written by Glendale ,Az's own Marty Robbins, features Bob Weir and Bobby Cochran, nephew of Eddie. Pretty sure where he got his chops from ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC7beOQUpuY |

One of the most tasteful overdubbed triple guitar solo in the history of recorded rock and roll. I can listen to it over and over. Never gets stale..He plays every instrument on this song!!

20,000 roads
I had to save this one for the Two-fer, but happy birthday to Emmylou Harris, last Saturday...She's got a few days on me but not many ;-) Strange as it may seem, I can't stand modern country music but here she is , doing what Gram Parsons called Cosmic American Music. "Discovered" by GP at a folk club in DC, he signed her up to back him on his final two albums...He sure knew how to pick 'em https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PytxPaU6k4 This one features singer ,songwriter, and musician, and former Hot Band member ,Rodney Crowell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnqBH7jLb0I |
Re: Musical Tastes
Paul McCartney broke up the Beatles on this day in 1970. He released "Maybe I`m Amazed" on April 17th. He played all the instruments on the original recording.

I found a YT video that Henley hasn't blocked , today.
Maybe b/c it's a live BBC recording Written by R&R HOF-ers Gene Clark and Bernie Leadon and also from the Eagles first album. See if you notice the two subtle, accidental nods to drag racing here ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v94XfEb5EmQ |

Always happy to notate R&R HOF members here ;-) In this clip, Timothy B Schmidt had already replaced Randy Meisner, as he did when joining the Eagles..Also founding member of Poco and The Buffalo Springfield, Richie Furay.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CWpqJVg7MQ |
Re: Musical Tastes
We recently found out that REM's Superman was a cover song by the Clique from the late, late 60's.
Here we have The Clique covering a Tommy James song, who's signature sound is all over it. This song was al over the radio when it came out, but it seems the oldies stations have completely forgot it. We're bringing it back here...;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQVTVkmCAAQ |
