Re: Original hemi dart information
Mopar Steve,
Excellent photo sharing. Correct on the "Behemoth" G/SA car by Bob Burkitt. Whenever a small white square with the letter "T" appears on the front window, thats the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona. Sometimes the articles get the technical info scrambled. Do like the photo of Lee Sprague's 68' 340 Dart. F/S NHRA national record holder. Jason, Wonder if the 68' Hemi Dart was out-of-commision during the end of 69'? PC |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Paul,
My uncle's Dart was definitely out of commission at the end of '69 due to a blown engine, like I mentioned earlier. But, according to my uncle, that was AFTER Indy, not before. Steve, I'm not saying those pictures AREN'T at Indy, but I personally can't identify them as being at Indy, nor can I positively identify that as my uncle behind the wheel. That said, if you'd like to do a high-resolution scan of that image and send it to me, I can tell you for sure whether it is my uncle driving (though unless there is some signage that definitively identifies the locale as Indy, I won't be able to help out in that department as I never saw Indy personally until about 2000). PM me if you'd rather e-mail me a high resolution scan than post it here. If nothing else, it will be fun to bust on my uncle about his memory failing! :D |
Re: Original hemi dart information
No sooner do I post that I don't have many pre-Missile pictures of my uncle, and I find this picture of his A/FX Comet:
http://thumb3.webshots.net/t/52/652/...3QCBwex_th.jpg I know it's not a Hemi Dart, but I thought it was somewhat related to the thread... |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Here's one from the same Webshots album, but of the car in question, the Iron Butterfly (with Wally Booth at the helm):

Pretty good Butterfly thread currently over at Moparts.com

Re: Original hemi dart information
Jason,
At least we know your uncle was at Indy 68' with the Dart, SS/BA #1229. In the Scat-Pack picture that Mopar Steve posted does show the 'Iron Butterfly' at Indy 69'. But I cannot see any Dick Oldfield lettering on the door panel, and there seems to be minimal decals on the front fender. At the Dallas Finals 69' (2 months later), your uncle's name is lettered on the car, more decals on front fender and NHRA#1341 on the window. Paul |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Mopar Steve,
Sorry 'bout that. you already posted that 'Butterfly' info. My head is still spinning about that little 68' 340 Dart of Lee Sprague in F/Stock, putting away the 63' Plymouth C/SA Wagon of Tritak & Morgan. I do have a photo of Dick Oldfield in the Dart at Niagara in 1969. The nicer paint job with 'Erie County Dodge Dealers' on the back quarter, chrome slotted mags for the front, Cragars on the rear. Re: Original hemi dart information
Jason,
I apologize for not posting that. Currently using a dial-up network. Changing to Charter Communications (cable) in February. Impossible to download photo's. Unless you want me to mail it. * Starting line shot at Niagara. Car with the dark-painted roof and hood-scoop "The Good Guys" on the door, with Dick Oldfield lettered under-neath (lower door panel). 1969 circa Paul |
