Tech Department. Big name. I don't reveal sources like that because they don't want every twit in the nation clogging their phone lines Monday morning with the grievance of the day starting with "Did you really say this to Jeff Lee...". However, know that getting through to NHRA has never been difficult for me or others I know. And just like any other corporation, call with an attitude and don't expect a call back.
That being said and you obviously will discredit my unnamed source, I would challenge you to call NHRA and have a frank discussion with them on the issue. All the players are listed either on-line or in the ND. It may take a little more perseverance and tactfulness than hitting the keyboard at the drop of a hat but it can be done.

And on the Bay area, I don't see much drag racing action their. Mostly known for drag events now but not the racing kind. :p

Jeff, didn't anyone tell you that the great NHRA resides in that giant castle in the sky and only the privileged ones can communicate with the man behind the curtain????

Interesting theory.
So , I guess if the driver of one of the new L/SA Cobra jets red lights to a lesser degree than, say a C/SA Camaro, Ford Racing would then tell NHRA to change the timing system to something more equitable?

Those cars are there as a "booster" to increase the presence of the CJ's and the DP cars. The real focus is on the higher classed cars. When I raced in SS/B with my Corvette I ran SE Buchannan in a new Dodge SS/AM at Brainerd. They shut us off in the water and made a big deal with the crowd about the fastest Chevrolet against the new generation muscle car that Chrysler had in Super Stock. I had a .502 light. You can guess the outcome.

And yes I've been on the receiving end with the manufacturers as well. Oldsmobile gave me a brand new car. I qualified #6 at Houston with it the first time out and went to the semi's. At the time it was the quickest and fastest Super Stock car in history with an 8.86 at 154 in SS/AM. We (myself and Oldsmobile) got a promo in Drag Racing Magazine as a result. They did the pics at the race track. Oldsmobile was pleased.

As to your comment above, it would be more likely that Ford Racing would call the L/SA driver and ask him what happened.

They don't.

If the first car to leave red lights, WHY should the second car to leave get a free ride?

According you you (Scott,) there IS no logical, legitimate reason beyond NHRA's desire to give the advantage to the faster car.

That flys in the face of the the monumental effort that NHRA has made since day one, to keep the racing fair.

How much money and effort has NHRA made over the years, buying diagnostic technical equipment, hiring qualified techs, and paying salaries for people to tear down engines to determine their legality, in order to keep the racing FAIR???

Now, all of a sudden, you want me to believe that the whole reason for treating 2 competitors differently, is simply to give FORD (or any other manufacturer) a miniscule advantage at the red light protocol?

I think theey're just not able to recognize this current (since 1963) system for what it is,... an anomaly that has gotten overlooked, and wouldn't make them one red cent, to change.

So, they won't.

I think you give them way too much credit... Not that much grey matter in all of Glendora....

But, it's a sad commentary on the ethical concepts of the membership, when they don't see ANYTHING WRONG with a system that short-changes the first to leave cars, consistently.

Everyone needs to have an equal chance to red light.

Sometimes, they don't. No excuse for that.

If not, why not? You seemed to like the idea of a double red light disqualifying both cars.

Because the guy red lit and eliminated himself from competition. He left before he was allowed to go. Not much else matters after that.

When you were in grade school or kindergarten and you had to stand in a straight line to go to lunch, it must have killed you that somebody was always ahead of you. Somebody was first and somebody was last. The kid at the front of the line got first choice at the cafeteria serving line. He got the gooey, cheesy mac-n-cheese. The kid at the end of the line got the scrapings, the over cooked noodles and the burnt on cheese.
Was that ever fair?
