I just knew you'd track me down over here,,,,,,,, What did you use,,,,,,,,,a "WHIP-IT" shot,,,,,,,,,,,like Demi Moore,,,,,,,:D Melvin Yow,,,,,,Lillington, North Carolina Your neck of the woods now,,,, The 65' Coronet was a 4-speed, sponsored by O. B. Hewitt Dodge out of South Carolina. Yes, I stand corrected,,,,,:o Melvin's Hemi Dart was an original 4-Speed (SS/B). Then he went Automatic (SS/BA), and then back to a 4-Speed for the 1970 Pro/Stock Circuit. Paul & Moose,
I'm sure this has been previously posted on this thread. What's the history of Chuck Ostrich's gorgeous BO29? |

This is a great thread. I'm not sure if this car was discussed in an earlier posting. This is DeFrank & Cohen's Barracuda. Does anyone know the background of the Barracuda? Is it a BO29 car? Where is it now? The picture was taken sometime in the late 80's at the Finals in Pomona. They also had a '64 Dodge at that event. It looks like Rick Johnson's car.

Thanx for your comment. I appreciate it. Ya, when I started this up a couple years ago looking for the history of my car, I had NO idea what it would have turned into. The wealth of shared info & pictures has been nothing short of outstanding. I look forward to new updates on different cars daily. As far as getting any closer to my cars origin, no, I'm still stuck in the early 80's with the last confirmed owner being Lou Vignonia. I now know for sure which cars it's NOT, so the list of possibilities is getting smaller, but I'm still waiting for that ONE lead that will take me down the correct path to it's original owner. In the meantime, let's keep this thread going, because judging by the number of visits, people aren't getting bored yet. If there's any NEW contributors out there, hey,,,,, any & all pictures & information posted here can only help in the cause, whether it's for my car or for for the general public to view liteweight |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Welcome aboard A990. Good to see we've collected some new blood
Eddie Smith was always known for having state of the art cars in competition. It would be great if you would share those pix here from the era when these cars still had some resemblance of a factory available car. When you look at the technology that's built into todays competitive SS/AH cars it's a long way away from it's roots. I wouldn't want to even TRY to bring back a current car to pre 1970 status. The original cars that are still in competition today will most likely always be upgraded to current competitive updates because there's just not enough left of the original to be financially feasible to return them back to leaf springs etc. Don't get me wrong, it's great to see guys are still pounding on these old war horses. They are doing exactly what they were originally built for. But, I am missing those "nose bleed" wheel stands that they were most famous for. Now they leave like a pro stock car. liteweight |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Thanks for the friendly welcome Liteweight,
Modern SS/AH is an incredible class from an engineering standpoint, but it has become very uneventful to watch ...almost like Pro Stock Lite. We've watched our beloved Mopar Super Stocks go through a bunch of transitions over the past 50 years, from factory exotica to early Pro Stock to hand me down bracket warrior to Concours restorations. The ones that I dream about lately are the competitive cars from the late 70s / early 80s. Cars like Bob Marshall's A990 with factory trunk floor, notched frame rails, 14 x 32 slicks mounted on Super Trick wheels, simple roll cages and nosebleed wheelies from SS springs and ladder bars. I first fell in love with Super Stock back then and that era of car / driver made a profound change in my automobile tastes that will last forever. |

----- Original Message ----- From: Reed To: Malibu Racing (E-mail) Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2005 9:52 PM Subject: [StockSSDragRacing] Trip to NJ -- Cars in fallen down building -- 68 SS Cuda & 67 Vette Here's a shot of what happens when the owner doesn't take care of building maintenance !! The 67 Vette was a 427 tri-power/ 4-speed // the 68 SS Cuda is now here in my shop in Nebraska. It was Dave Wren's FIRST SS Cuda - been in this building since late 1969 after the owner bought the body from Sox & Martin. If you look in the S&M book at the picture inside their shop of the SuperBird, the Wren Cuda is right next to the Bird -- the original fenders and hood are still the that orange paint scheme and match the the Cuda in the picture. Its a ruff car in some ways but has a lot of good points such as 90% of the TUFF to find parts are with the car. I have most of the engine parts here already incl. NOS carbs, etc. I already bought another body to chop so we can reskin the roof and quarters. I'll post more later -- Thanks, Reed in Ne. That's the last I heard about it... M68 |
