One of the earliest appearances by the 1968 Hemi Super Stockers,

At the April 6 & 7, 1968 Southeast Division '2' Points Meet.

Phenix Dragway, Alabama

John Livingston, SS/B Hemi Barracuda wins Super Stock Eliminator

Larry Cooper, SS/BA Hemi Dart, Runner-Up to John Livingston

Since there were no established National Records for these cars,
the NHRA instituted a minimum;
SS/B = 10.90
SS/BA = 11.00

darryl have you checked into this car? this one looks similar, the lettering on the side does not jog the memory but the stickers in the quarter window do, i wish it was in color.

Slicks 10.5" x 15" , 28.5" tall

Rims; 15" x 8" (Special off-set steel rims from the factory)

Cragar did make a chromed set of the factory steel wheels.

Cragar, Keystone and Fenton also made off-set mags for the rear.

The July 20-21 1968 event at Bluegrass Dragway had two darts in the Super Stock final. Paul Richardson in the "Hustlin Hemi" vs Ron Mancini in his 383 Dart. Richardson won.
Mancini returned for the 1969 Divison 3 event and won SS in his Hemi Dart.

OK southern racers. In the late '80's R&R Speed Shop in Huntsville AL raced an original '68 Dart. I don't know where it came from but I arranged the sale of it to a guy named Bill (not Blair) from Concord NC.

Does anyone have information on where it came from or where it went after the sale?

If it is the one I am thinking of - it was originally called "Rumble Bee" - probably still was - originally out of NC - it is still around owned by a collector/racer in PA - hing he drives a CJ now.
The white Barracuda is Ray Christian's old car - here owned by Bob Stape - former manager of Keystone Dragway

Nelson Stoltz restored his old Willys - talked to him and saw the car at the HRR in Bowling Green a number of years ago.

Paul,
Nice list - but there are a few mistakes - same car listed twice, 2nd owners, not real cars and some cars were not Darts or Barracudas. I made many of the same mistakes when I started the registry. One hint since the Joe Smith photo came up - The Joe Smith car and the McBroom Motors car are the same - I have pics of both and it is Joe Smith's car not sure what happened to the Dealer Sponsorship.

Th A.J. Foyt photo is interesting because he DID run a Chrysler very briefly for Norm Nelson in USAC - Norm was from here in town and his son showed me some pics of both cars on the trailer - 65 Plymouth I beleive - this might have been the Dealer that sponsored the car???

Yes,,,,,,,,unfortunately many of the photo's do not have a date,,,,,,,
So I have to try and break them down,,,,,,,,,

I try to list accurate dates with my photo posts, as it gives a little more information on the car.....

Quite a few cars switched hands during 1968 and 1969....

Foyt raced a Dodge for Ray Nichols in Nascar in 1964. He won the July race at Daytona. Ford could not provide him one of their Indy engines for the 500 and temperamental as Foyt was he gave the Ford people the finger when pulling into victory lane at Indy and so no Fords for AJ for a while. They kissed and made up and he won Daytona again in 1965 in a Ford.

The Sox & Martin car with the torque-thrusts is the match race car.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Paul,
I was not being critical - you have done a great job - You are right many changed hands in that time period and the B body cars being classed as SS/B also confuses things - on top of that it seems that there are many typos in some of the Drag papers of that time. I have made many of the same mistakes (some of the same cars even) in my research. Another tip is that Phil Baily's Tinker Toy was not an original car.

1968 Hemi S/S Registry

Yes,,,,,,,,unfortunately many of the photo's do not have a date,,,,,,,
So I have to try and break them down,,,,,,,,,

I try to list accurate dates with my photo posts, as it gives a little more information on the car.....

Quite a few cars switched hands during 1968 and 1969....

Re: Original hemi dart information

Mark,,

No offense taken,,,,,,,,,

I would rather post a photo with accurate information, but unfortunately some photo's are from 1969 and later,,,,,,,

Chrysler really did a poor job of logging these cars, and keeping proper
information.

All the contributors to this thread have done a remarkable job,,,,,,helping document the 150 or so Hemi cars that were built and raced 40+ years ago.

It's been a fun ride,,,,,,,:D
