I found an envelope of photos this past week with a few Hemi Dart pictures.
Just had them scanned for your viewing pleasure. Summer of 1973 or 1974 a friend was going to the US Nationals and my older brother asked if a few photos could be taken of the quarter panels of a few original Hurst prepped Hemi Darts. The white Dart appears to be an original from the Hurst facility. Do not know what to think of the "Hurley Automotive" Dart as the forward edge of the wheel opening has a curved shape to it. Original photos by Joe Archer from Omaha, Nebraska. |

Looks like the leading edge rear wheel opening on the Hurley car retains the original Hurst profile while the white car has the common modification of trimming the fender/rocker to gain more tire clearance once you go to taller/high growth slicks. The only other way was to move the diff back on the leaf spring perches. |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Here's a template which was made from a documented original wheel opening.

Re: Original hemi dart information
Welcome here Doug. Great pictures you found. Thanx for sharing. Do you have more?
About the rear openings. There are probably not 2 LO23 Darts out there, even new, that have the same opening shape. They were modified by hand, torch, & hammer at Hurst. I'd even go to the extent the DS was different to the PS. Below is a pic of mine. They've really been opened on the forward side, but still retain the original outer tubs. Available tire diameter started dictating opening size. There weren't tires available of size till the early 70's. Anyone recognize the ID on that white Dart? liteweight http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6fb6950f.jpg |

Steve That forward opening looks WAY to much for a Hurst mod. it looks like it goes past the forward section of the wheel tub. Hurst only modified to the stock front lower section of the tub. liteweight |
