The Hardtop:

Both:

The hardtop had sedan doors. Guess it helped strengthen it.

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars

Pop Whitt was/is from the Virginia Beach area. Randy Ryan drove the car for Pop....

Mike Guffey found the '65 AWB car in Detroit. He sold the car to it's current owner who then had it restored with Mike's assistance. I've seen the car before it's restoration and afterwards. It's a great car.

The only folks to ever have their hands on more Mopar AWB cars than Mike Guffey would be Amblewagon..... Mike has been involved with every one that has ever been found and currently owns the Golden Commandos '65 AWB Plymouth along with other significant cars.

The former S&M '65 AWB hardtop was cut up on a used car lot in Maryland. Very few parts of that car remain. The sedan is the real deal...

Well I live in Michigan and have three eye witness accounts that say different about the sox and martin Sedan ,which was sold to buckeye and Vernon and then went to Detroit And all three people have the same story and two people owned the car and not any one of them sold it to Mr Guffy and the third person had the car sit on her property and she was there when the car was sold in 1985 and this is in Michigan still north of Detorit and she said Mike Guffy was not there her husband says Mike Guffy was not there so it sounds to me that our hero Mr Guffy and his story does not ad up! U see I too am a big fan of these cars and it seems that a lot of stories are made up to make people rich ,heroes or like gods I do not believe that a car could sit in a ally in the city of Detorit for fifteen years until Mike Guffy comes along and saves it and that is the story that is hot rod magazine written by Geoff Stunkurd so who is telling the truth ?

I have photos of the car sitting in Mike Guffey's shop unrestored. He sold to car to Todd Werner. The photo of the unrestored car in the Hot Rod article was taken in Mike's shop.

So, what are you trying to say? His name is spelled Guffey by the way.

I also know Geoff. He also did an article on Guffey's collection in the 90's for SS&DI in which he talks about Mike owning the car.

What I am saying is the story don't ad up , Mr gufffey may have owned the car but no one found it in an alley in detroit the city would have had it hauled away and when I talked to Mr gufffey on the phone about this he hung up on me, so what wrong with the truth I guess it don't make us as big a hero dose it ,I guess people can't handle the truth!

What difference does it make where the car was found? Mike found it some place near Detroit, documented it, had it for a long time in unrestored condition then sold it to Todd Werner who funded a great restoration.

As I stated before Mike has been involved with everyone of these existing cars. Mike is honest and doesn't put up with much nonsense, ask anyone who knows him. I'm not shocked that he hung up on you to be honest....

Sounds like you have some sort of an axe to grind with him and I'm not sure why. If you know somebody that had the car before Mike and they want a pat on the back then ok but whoever had it left it get into terrible shape and did nothing with it. At least Mike got it to Todd eventually.

I think calling Mike a hero is a stretch but he does deserve credit for finding these pieces of history and preserving them or getting them to folks that will preserve them.

Mike Guffey just so happens to be one of my heroes and one of the most upstanding motorsports historians today. I've had communications with Mike for more than 20 years now and can attest that his integrity is immaculate.

I do agree, Mike is a great guy. I've been to his home several times and spent time with him at the 2008 All Hemi Reunion. He is the authority on these type of cars.

I think the name in Detroit area was Chris Tadey (sp) on the paper tiger and lets not forget that the two best altwb in my opinion, the Lee Smith Plymouth and the Dick Landy dodge were both bought from Toli Poliwik by Mike. A couple of real authority
