Re: Musical Tastes
Here's an original version two-fer, from the same artist:
BW's version came out I week before the TDN single.. Written by Daniel Moore about a mythical place or state of mind ..or maybe both. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUKijjWpim8 This one was also written by Moore but BW added a verse so he's on the writer's credit as well.. Released long before most of the cover versions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewyu4dIVj-8 |
Re: Musical Tastes
No, the late seventies wasn't all disco...
Jay Ferguson was a founding member of the LA band, Spirit. As he would say, Let's go to Thunder Island Live, from Japan > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdfyUZUllLI |
Re: Musical Tastes
Formed in J-ville by Donnie Van Zandt, younger brother of Ronnie, and therefore typecast as a Southern Rock band..
They never really sounded that way to me ...More 70's -80's Rock /Pop But here's one of my favorites by them...It's been running through my head for a few days, and now maybe I can pass it off. LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRVXOxAjR8w |
Re: Musical Tastes
Happy 3rd..
This one is from page 4, a long time back.. PPL is only known on my least favorite format, for one song ,even though they still exist and have made many albums. I think that Irving, at the agency in NYC had a daughter named "Amie" and he told the DJs at "classic rock" just this one time only... But you can hear many more...right here :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7vzzdUrJWI |

Re: Musical Tastes
This two-fer is too good to pass up..Two Father songs on the same album..This will be my Tuesday two-fer ;-)
"I'll catch the tram line in the morning With your leave", Van Bushell said He had further heard the **** crow As he stumbled out the shed Then blind Joseph came towards him With a shotgun in his arms He said, "You'll pay me twenty dollars Before you leave my farm" Van Bushell saw a hook Which replaced Joseph's hand He said, "Now calm you down, my brother Let's discuss this man to man" It's no good you getting angry We must try to act our age You're pursuing your convictions Like some hermit in a cage You're the son of your father You try a little bit harder Do for me as he would do for you With blood and water, bricks and mortar He built for you a home You're the son of your father So treat me as your own Well, slowly Joseph barely lowered the rifle And he emptied out the shells Van Bushell, he came towards him He shook his arm and wished him well He said, "Now, hey, blind man, that is fine But I sure can't waste my time So move aside and let me go my way I've got a train to ride" Well, Joseph turned around His grin was now a frown He said, "Let me just refresh your mind Your manners, boy, seem hard to find" You're the son of your father You try a little bit harder Do for me as he would do for you With blood and water, bricks and mortar He built for you a home You're the son of your father So treat me as your own Well there's two men lying dead as nails On an East Virginia farm For charity's an argument That only leads to harm So be careful when they're kind to you Don't you end up in the dirt Just remember what I'm saying to you And you likely won't get hurt You're the son of your father Oh, try a little bit harder You gotta do for me as he would do for you With blood and water, bricks and mortar He built for you a home You're the son of your father So treat me as your own You're the son of your father So treat me as your own You're the son of your father So treat me as your own, yeah @craigatherton2638 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL-gy1VyIa0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb2B966IOfM |

Back on the CA. virtual roadway...
Scott McKenzie was a band mate of John Philips, who wrote this song.. If you might have guessed, John's daughter McKenzie was named after him. Thankfully he didn't name her Scott ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxcVZ2Hompk |

Re: Musical Tastes
I don't know a damn thing about California. Never been west of the Mississippi. So I'll have to stay home here in Ohio. These guys played the local clubs in the mid to late 70's. There were bars.. The Swallows, JR's Bar and Grill and the Newark Lounge that they played repeatedly. If you went, be prepared. Standing room only, smoke filled and HOT. Thin girls with Mini skirts and tight little halter tops were the norm. Quaaludes and Cocaine was everywhere in those days. Heck guys would show up with zip lock bags full of diet pills as they were still legal. They were actually Bi-Amphetamines ie. Black Beauties.. Talk about dancing all knight !!. The drug that Bill Crosby used to get the pants off of women was indeed Quaaludes. But back then women took them like candy. I witnessed girls getting up on stage and sticking ludes down players throat's right in the middle of songs. A Bar fight out front (of the Swallows place) landed me in the hospital for 3 days one time. LOL. God those were fun and crazy times. Anyway, the lead guitarist ( Mark Chatfield) joined Bob Seger and the Silver Bullitt Band and the Godz were never the same.

Re: Musical Tastes
Eddie posted a Joni Mitchell song (Coyote) on 07-01-2020. She wrote this, but never went to the Festival. CSN&Y covered it. James Taylor as well. It`s nice to see the Supreme Court working, like I understood it should work, when I was a kid, back then. Happy Third Anniversary to this thread. Great Idea Mark.
