Re: Original hemi dart information
[QUOTE=Hemi Moose;310770]Bob Banning Dodge L023 '68 Hemi Dart...notice the chrome trim on C-pillar....this is the second '68 Hemi Dart I've seen this on.
http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...NNING-Dart.jpg [QUOTE] Looks like this Dart will be taken off my list of possibilities also, cause the front fenders have the side markers. My front fenders are the same ones that my car came with when it left Hurst ( as far as I know at this point), & I've looked for holes that have been previously repaired from markers. There are none. liteweight |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Screen ##1481 --I believe that the Coronet in the pic was the car that Jim Wick wrecked at Gainesville??? in about 1969-70 that left him so badly injured/crippled that he spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair---he passed away a few years ago(2-3) from cancer---his son lives/lived in the Fon du Lac Wis. area they still have the Cuda----used to se him run at Da Grove(Union Grove) all the time do not remember ever seeing the Dart---the Cuda and the Coronet yes but never the Dart ---His son Jeff still runs the business Jim's Car Shop in Fon du Lac--maybe contact him could give ya some info on all 3 cars

Re: Original hemi dart information
FED 387
The 65 Coronet that you are talking about is alive and well, it has never been crashed. Jim sold the car I believe in the later 70's to Frank Bogess from West Virginia who raced it for a couple of years. Frank then sold the car to two brothers also from West Virginia. I purchased the car in 1985 and raced it for several years back in the mid 90's as a BA car. Due to lack of time and not being able to keep up with the current crop of B Automatics, the car is currently in the garage sitting on jack stands. The Dart is located in Illinois as previously stated. I have talked to the owner a number of times over the years. I would usually run into him at Indy. I believe Jim crashed his Prostock Duster at Columbus in 1973 that resulted in his injuries. Bob SS/BA 305 |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Yep I remember now he was racing Joe Satmary that day in Columbus 73 -- pro stock 4 speed duster---somehow I always think it was G'ville but then remembering back it was columbus--still never do remember seing the Dart---who owns it now???

Re: Original hemi dart information
As for Darts that were converted to 70 models - I can think of at least 7 off the top of my head - 3 have been converted back. Larry Griffith's Dart is a real car - it was converted to a 70 and they still had the parts so they converted it back. Most of the other cars are unaccounted for. Yow's Dart was a real car that was converted as well.
From what I know Jim Wick's Barracuda (now owned by Danny Smith), 65 car and the Dart are all alive and well - possibly even the Duster. I thought I heard that his 66-7 car was crashed by a later owner. Jim's Barracuda is shown below next to the Jenkins Dart in the photo that liteweight posted below. |

Not much to see on this car xept the left over red on the quarter & blue tinted windows. This car IS the Don Carlton /Sox & Martin car taken about 12 years ago. It had repaired damage done on the front clip from a towing accident. Rumour has it the car fell off the trailer. This is not the first car. liteweight |

Set the SS/B National Record at Louisiana Pel State Dragstrip in June 1968. 10.91 @ 131.19 MPH The BO29 Hemi Barracuda's and LO23 Hemi Darts were declared legal for Super Stock by the NHRA on June 1, 1968 (1 week before the 1968 NHRA Springnationals). The NHRA had to confirm that at least 50 of each car was properly documented and owned by a drag racer or dealership, and that the car was in their possession. http://images32.fotki.com/v1048/phot...bleCar1-vi.jpg |

Here's another one of a Sox & Martin '68 Hemi Barracuda that they repainted and sold to their race customers...or maybe someone just painted it themselves to look like a S&M car.
