Re: Musical Tastes
Time for a look back at how damn goofy we were back in the 70's. I liked Rushes Fly By Night song so well I had a mural of the album covers hawk on the trunk lid of my 1966 2 Door Electra 225 Buick. Good times.(1978) Brad, the artist, didn't have too much luck on his first attempt. It was getting dark and he gave up for the evening. BUT, as a joke he did a quick airbrush cover coat and then wrote "THE MUFF DIVER" on the entire truck lid of my Buick. Remember, those Buicks back then were huge. My parents lived in Gallipolis and before I could get it removed Mom showed up in town and needed to burrow the car. I had inherited it from my grandfather on dads side. That Buick was his pride and joy. I wasn't home when she showed up and Brad just threw her the keys. Lord oh Lordy. Next thing I knew Dad was there and wanted to know "Who wrote I'm a Muff Diver on the back of dads Buick" I tried unsuccessfully to explain, he then looked at Brad and said "Why didn't you just write I eat horse sheeet" on there instead and stomped off. Things were quiet between me and the folks for a while, but we got past it. LOL

Re: Musical Tastes
Every few days , I see something on FB about getting Dan into the R&R HOF.
Not sure if he was R&R , but probably at least as much as Dolly Parton and Madonna .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smZ2BLEXu7c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWH_nvLK7jc |
Re: Musical Tastes
I`m often stunned when I hear "so and so" isn`t in the R&R HOF. Plenty of good stuff, from some pretty good R&R bands. Paul Rodgers sang for Bad Company, Free and the Firm. Neither he, nor the bands are in. Wonder what the criteria is?

Re: Musical Tastes

As Alice and Gene Simmons say..People want to hear you sing...not proselytize. Now, here it comes.. 1, Robert Plant's moany groany voice drives me up a wall. I'm sure he's a good guy and a survivor, and the band had some great players 2, The AC /DC guys. I guess I should call them 2 A and 2 B...Like nails on a blackboard :-O Carry on... |
Re: Musical Tastes
I mentioned Alice Cooper earlier.
Ol' Vince was a PT Barnum huckster with his act, I believe, but actually if you ever listened to his radio program, he knows a lot about good music, including this cover of The Left Banke's follow up of Walk Away Renee' > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXIzsfxdzWw Pretty hard to top this one with a cover version> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDfrW5cWqMU |
Re: Musical Tastes
another cover of "walk away Rene" you might like would be the Southside Johnnie version on his studio album "at least we got shoes", he also has it on some of his live albums but the sax kinda lacks the soul of the studio version

Haven't had much inspiration lately...I did hear this on Pandora today though.
I've done this one before...It's a remake of their 1965 hit, that was on a reunion album in 1975..Just a touch of steel added :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGdXhuufVwM |

Re: Musical Tastes
Speaking of AG , this song, from 1961, was used in the film .
The bogus BB version was released in 1965, so would have been too new for "Where were you in '62.." (More on this tomorrow) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5ffwTaydwQ |
Re: Musical Tastes
In November 1965, the Beach Boys released the non-album single "The Little Girl I Once Knew" which repeatedly used a measure of silence in the arrangement and was reportedly disliked by radio programmers owing to their avoidance of having "dead air";[18] this has been cited as being partially responsible for the single stalling at US number 20. Still wanting to play new material by the band, radio disc jockeys around the United States began playing the last track of Party! straight off the LP, a cover of The Regents' "Barbara Ann." It received good listener response and was issued as a single by Capitol when they started hearing from radio programmers; it became a number 2 hit in early 1966.[6]
Even being a big BB fan in the mid-60's, I never did care for their version of Barbara - Ann, as it was originally named..It just sounded like a joke, and a white boys' version of a soul / doowop song. It turns out it was .The Party album was actually studio tracks and out- takes , with the banter and laughter added afterwards. Some of Brian Wilson's early experimentation and trickery.. Here's the song that was displaced...dead air and all> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Ok9bKdAeU |
