Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
Will the new F4 Procharger move it up one class? :)
What are the 5.4 and 3 valve 4.6's? There are already legal versions. |

Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
Im a Mopar guy and unfortunatley I agree, Ford is doing good things in respect to the Drag Racing Stock and Superstock arena, Dodge dropped the ball in a couple of ways on the DP program, first axing the guys who made it happen, then diddling around for over 14 months in between, the HAD a perfect opportunity to be fielding the cars way earlier but.....dropped.....Its hard to think about the performance market and racing when youre drowning.
What Im also dissapointed at is that a Major Tuner, hasnt approached Chevy about basically prototyping and building them for them. I would LOVE to see a 3 manufacturer field this year with the new stuff..... I guess Ill have to be happy with Ford and Dodge..... Quote:

Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
For what it's worth, at the PRI show, one of the guys at the Mopar booth said they are at least considering the feasibility of providing a more complete version of the next Challenger Drag Pack car and that they are putting more empasis on the Sportsman categories rather than the Pro's. Considering they were on the brink of going under, I think Mopar is putting a pretty good effort into it.

Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
This isn't stock. it's factory crate motor cars. Why not just add the IHRA crate motor classes and let us all run these motors in our old cars? Of course as one of my good friends says, crate motor cars are just bracket cars with an index.

Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
And an intake limit, and a rotating assembly weight limit, and a valve spring diameter limit, and an oil pan limit and a bunch of other things that are different in stock and super stock. Over the years the rules have evolved to what they are. Some people like the evolution and some don't. These crate motors are a whole new deal in NHRA. Allowing these cars with these crate motors in our eliminator is obscene. This favors a small minority of racers and says to hell with all you guys that have worked your asses off over the years on combos that are going to be obselete. This is all about money and who's paying NHRA.

Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
Stock and superstock evolved from factory involvement. Why should anyone criticize that involvement now? It may breathe some life into an otherwise dying breed.

Re: FORD, 5 NEW S/SS Engines
Everyone is entitled to their opinion on what Stock and Super Stock should or should not be, however, I'd hardly say the new cars will make the old ones obsolete. In the big picture there are very few Challengers and CJs, nowhere near enough to "ruin" an entire eliminator. Just ask John Shaul about winning with his "obsolete" 1964 Plymouth.

What did the new Stangs run at Palm Beach yesterday? Looked to be about 3 or 4 or them there.
