Re: NHRA #s
When I started racing back in 1994 I got 5568. My dad's number at the time was 5569. When my dad passed away in 2000 I decided to get his original SS back. When dad started driving his first number was 5456. When I called the D-5 office to get it back Nikki asked why and I told her and she started crying because she knew my dad. Then we had it put on the car it was like having a old friend or family member back in my life. That number will NEVER leave my family again.

Re: NHRA #s
In an ironey I don't mind talking about I wound up with Stock, SS and ET # 1188. At the very center of the Bible is Psalm 118 verse 8. "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man".

Re: NHRA #s
You're on a roll Ed, keep it up!!!
As for my number, the first two numbers match the year of my birth, and the second two the day. To add icing to the cake, the representing division (5) also matches the month of my birth, so how's that for ya??? I originally had the number "5517", which was on my car back in 1981 when I won my first (and only so far) Divisional championship (Street Eliminator). However, when '85 came I chose to start a family and having a car to race was benched from '87 to '92 (I let the number expire and now a Mn. Stocker racer has it). Once I was ready to get back into racing ( around 1992), I could only get that number for Stock Eliminator, and I wanted it for bracket racing also, so I asked for this number, it was available, and now it's mine, all mine!!! |
Re: NHRA #s
My original number was 2242.I requested a number with "42" in it as that was our number at Budds Creek back in the 70's.I let it expire and got 2421 the next time.I might ask for my Dad's old number 2581 when I re up my deal this year.

Re: NHRA #s
Eddie, My brother, Lance had #1313 in his A/S car for years until he retired. Not sure who has it now. My original #1312 was picked up by D-1 racer Aaron Vignogna a friend. Keeping the number in the family

Re: NHRA #s
My buddy Dave Outten was talking to IHRA about a S/S number for his 68 or 69 Corvette. He wanted 1968... She said "nope" but I have 1960.......he called me directly and said call her right now, she is waiting. I called her, and she was waiting....I ask her to hold it for me for thirty minutes...she said OK. I called NHRA and ask for S/S1960....she said "nope".....I did some quick thinking....I ask her for 196C...she said OK.... Now I have IHRA S/S 196O....and with a small piece of black tape I have NHRA S/S 196C for my 60 Corvette...that was the best I could do. It looks like I have to wait for SS/AH racer Al Smith to retire to get the NHRA1960. To bad I don't have a (1968 for his Cuda) to trade him.
