The Canadian Pontiac "7000" Series that I work on. Strato Chief, Laurentian, Parisienne full size cars, are COMPLETELY Chevrolet in specifications, with the very same engine options ( actually 62 and earlier, there were no 4 speeds, no 300HP 327, and no high comp/solid lifter 348's ).
These cars are not in the guide. However, in 1981, as a 21 year old kid, I made an amateur attempt at a Stocker, with a 63 Parisienne hardtop, 300HP 327 4 speed. I contacted NHRA Div 6 tech ( Tom Compton ? ), to see if it would be accepted. They got back to me and said yes, the car is all Chevrolet. Ran within a 10th of the index, on a set of L60 15 "Road Huggers".

I read in another post someplace that 289/271hp Falcons were sold in Canada....these cars were not available in the US for some reason. Does anyone know why Ford didn't build this combo for the US? Seems like a great combo.

Jim,
I think it was (8) 1965 Falcon 2-door sedans. Not "K"-Code, but Code #992 Special Order 289/271HP cars. Classed for B/S.
Came with 4.57 gears.
Did any 1965 Mercury Cyclones come through with 289/271HP engines.
It's in the guide, but were they really made?
1964 289/271HP cars were produced, but 1965's?

Yes.....A friend (Gene Collins) had a 202 2 door post sedan (C/S at that time.....F/S today) sponsored by a local Lincoln Mercury dealer. Raced at Aquasco, Capitol and other local tracks in Md. Ran against the 1960 SD 389 Pontiacs (Gene Calhoons Arapaho, Dick Hills 60 Pontiac) and 61 270 HP Vettes. It was in a D.C. car show as it was really done up nice for that era. Another friend had a Red Cyclone but only as a street car and I was just alking to him about that car last week on the phone. He wished he had it back....lol. Gene Collins later ran a 66 271 automatic Mustang and won the NASCAR Daytona Winternationals. He was my partner in a 71 Dodge Challenger 383 factory/Dealer effort so I knew him well. I just dont know how many 271's were made.

X-Tech.
I liked those 65' Mercury's with the dual vertical head-lights, and
optional dual-scoop fiberglass hood.
Thought the 65' only came through with the 289/225HP. I saw one in K/Stock in 1968.
A Comet Caliente' (13.00-13.99 wt/hp). Had that nice dual-exhaust system.
A nice little street terror. In the rain, the back-end was as slippery as a 'banana-peel'.
Didn't know the 65's could get the 271HP-HiPo

Re: cars that were built but not in the guide?

Yep.....Had my hands on a couple of them (271 HP versions.) but they had standard steel hoods. The dual fiber glass scoop was for the B/FX cars. FYI.....if it had dual exhaust on the 225 HP version Comet (and the 271's) it was an owner or dealer mod. They only came with single exhaust with that cool sounding single muffler or a dealer add on (not OEM) . That was a big "stink" with the guys running in the local Pure Stock classes back in 1965 as the 225 HP Mustangs had duals and the Comet owners screamed UNFAIR as they ran the same class. They were later allowed to change to aftermarket duals because of this problem.

Paul,

A friend of mine bought the 1965 Cyclone with the 271hp just after high school he also opted for the factory tri-power at the same time so we never knew how fast it really was in stock trim. Don't know how many were made.

This Z-16 was sold at auction on June 19th in San Diego. The selling price includes the 10% buyers premium.

I attended the auction.......cars sold cheap but I did not bring enough money to buy the car I wanted.

Re: cars that were built but not in the guide?

What some do not know is the Z-16's were all built on a convertible frame even though they were all hardtops because of the reiforcements of the frame.
