Thanks George for posting that !

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
Alex,I see that the spec sheet that George posted shows the gt40p head on the 215/240 engine. George said they were on his Probe. I guess that is why Olin had them on his engine at Rockingham. I am glad that is cleared up, I was beginning to thank my old age was catching up with me. I see the cam lift is smaller than I thought it was.
Goinbroke:The last gt40p head that I bought were on craigs list. The first set I bought were new. The hard part of running this head ,is with angle plug, you have to buy headers that fit the gt40p head. Good luck. Gary Peterson |

Of course, with all the different design headers out there, one would have to experiment, but it is possible to use regular headers on P heads. |
Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
Did some searching and gt40 were on explorers to 96. In 97 they went to gt40P heads.
As far as headers, the ones I have now are not optimal so I will be building a set of 1 1/2" primary approx 38-40" long. I'm leaning towards tri Y and possibly crossing pipes under car to have 180headers. Lots of idea's, now to find the engine! Nothing around here but there HAS to be explorers in the junkyards. I'll do a search after I get back from BC. (hmm, check out the junk yards in BC while on Christmas vacation?....bet THAT won't go over good with the ol lady hehe) Perhaps this is a dumb question but I also saw the higher lift in the IHRA spec's online and assumed (like a stocker) I could run any duration. According to Georges sheet, the lift is lower and there are spec's on the amount of duration. Is part of the crate motor spec's the exact cam you must use (not just lift)? Must I use the F4TE-6250-BA cam or any cam with the same lift? |
Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
An IHRA crate motor can use any duration, they only check the lift. Not sure why, but the IHRA tech sheet wanted the duration. They probably use the same form for pure stock specs. Did you use any kind of modeling software for your header design? I used the recomendations from Pipemax and came up with:
1- 5/8" tube for 8 inches 1- 3/4" tube for 8 inches 1- 7/8" tube for 16 inches 3- 1/2" collector |
Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
what heads are on the 270/250 hp engine then?

Your total of 32" makes more sense due to the higher rpm of this combo. Perhaps 1 1/2" is too small, period? If that's the case maybe I'll run; 1-3/4 X 32" or 1-3/4 X 16" and 1 7/8" X 16" 3 1/2" collector (12" to start) Header design has always been a facination to me but with mud trucks/street/bracket stuff, I've always concentrated on smaller dia to keep the flow around 300fps and fairly long for lower rpm torque. (I see 2" pri on a sbc and think "What the....."???) Obviously I've got to rethink some stuff... Excellent point on the 3 step, never thought of it but with limited lift you do need the pull from scavenging on the back of the valve as long as possible. |
Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
270/250 engines gt40p. 215/240 gt40p, and 285/265/255 gt40.
