Re: NHRA answers the seat question

Rules amendment for Stock and Super Stock today....passenger seat must match....

"Driver and passenger side seats must be identical in appearance. See General Regulations 6:2. (1/15/2013)"

Some folks may need to double down on their recent purchase...

Re: NHRA answers the seat question

So is it permissible to install two identical front bucket seats, aftermarket or OEM replacement, in a vehicle that bucket seats were not originally available in?

(I realize this thread was started way before the recent rule[s] changes, but I just wondered if this might be another "get it in writing from Glendale" scenario.)

Lew , I'd just put in one racing seat (whatever that means. I guess you have to buy it from Jegs or Summit)
)
Your car came with one seat...One out ,one in

I wouldn't call it illegal, it's just that NHRA clarified a new rule as they often have to after implication. I'm sure Mr. Miele will take care of the issue and will be compliant.

So let me get this straight...... You can remove the 150 pound bench seat and replace it with two lite bucket seats. Two questions, if you have a 13 second stocker that doesn't require a roll bar is this still acceptable without a bar and is the stock restraint still acceptable with the aftermarket seats???

Re: NHRA answers the seat question

would you be able to do this in a bracket car that didn't need a roll bar or not-- does anyone out there have any backround if this has been accepted at a santioned bracket race like the et finals- if you follow the rule book to a t you need a bolt on the back attached to the cross bar if it is an aftermarket approved race seat. Otherwise only a factory seat with headrest could be used without rollbar. Thats the way I see the rule book

Re: NHRA answers the seat question

i dont have an NHRA rule book, but the IHRA gives a "recommended" style of seat mounting. i couldnt find in the IHRA book where it said how many bolts are required. i do remeber back in the early 90's we installed a light weight seat in our 13.0 bracket car with no cage and were told to put a support bracket to the back of the seat by the tech guy. we ran a bar from where the rear seat mounting area was.
