So true Woodro, as I posted earlier the 1963 Class Winners and note the Disqualified ones and what they were Disqualified for. Right there in print, no hush or rumors.

It was at one time Woodro because of good racers like yourself. Its a different world today. Lots of bogus stuff being seen but looked at the other way not to mention the phoney HP factors. Its become like the politics of today. Back door deals and lies lies and more lies. Hope you are enjoying your retirement from this madness and the towing with $4 plus fuel. Im glad I was able to race early on when it was fun, almost affordable, and worked tech when I did. Its just not worth the many hours on your feet and the lack of an association backing you up any more. I met a lot of wonderful people (and some NOT so nice) thru this thing called drag racing.

I was taken apart with Greg X. being the tech person many times, there was no funny business, if he didn't like what he saw, you were out. That's when the valve spring pressures had to be spec. and if the valve was bent or not, your presure had better come up right. I was tossed with a valve spring being too tight by 3 lbs. on the seat and the valve was bent. It didn't matter, it wasn't spec in Greg's eye. That's when Stock was Stock and no after market anything was allowed.
If you came apart at Maple Grove, you went to a pig farm for the tear down in an old barn. I think that that was one of Greg's favorite places for the tear downs.

Heck, I would. Hair was still brown & all here, nothing hurt, more energy. LOL

Been through tear downs with Red Anderson, Wesley Roberson, and Chuck Nelson.
Like and much respect for all of them. Tough tech men are great. That's the way it should be.

Agreed. Met Wesley at Gaineville back in 74 or 75. Tuff, smart but fair. Ended up buying a 2 piece alum degree wheel for checking cam duration and overlap from Red Anderson so the old tape method wasnt needed and I still have it. Another smart and good tech guy. Never knew Chuck Nelson but heard about him. Marty Barrett was another great if you had strong fenders on your car. The alum. fendered car guys didnt care for him much though.

Chuck Nelson is still our tech director. See him every race. Great, no BS guy. Runs the scales. Always try to visit with him at each race. We ain't getting any younger. LOL

Red is a pretty sharp machinist. He made all that checking stuff. Really bright guy. Just a young kid when I started racing, scared to death of him until I got to know him. LOL
