Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
I won the lotto to get a car #34, order what I thought was the best combo of the bunch (white / 427 ) then decided I did not want the car as I was very happy with what Ford was doing and they did not take the bale out money which I disagreed with giving to GM and Chrysler . I sold it to another racer ( at my cost ) who's dream was to own one .
Car was paid for in full , GM dealer held 90k for 8months interest free , car was to be delivered at the end of June , got it on 10/26 . Gm did not do racers any favors , cars have been delivered out of order , some people and dealers have been given special favors on deliveries and the blower cars wont stay together for more then 3 runs . Gm required that you sign and agreement stating that they were not responcible for any defects in the cars before you got delivery . Ford , locate a car , pay the dealer , leave with the car. But the guy who purchase my car fulfilled his lifetime dream and thats all its really about . If you want to buy the car on ebay spend your money and enjoy it . Life is to short to sweat the little things . FJ Smith knows is stuff and has built some of the best Stock & Super Stock ( Ford , GM, Mopar ) cars on the planet , I know I owned one and wish I had never sold it |

Maybe if we work on him we can convince him to convert that car of his to a Super Stocker! |

Obviously we both have a different take on this. My COPO experience so far has been awsome. I will let the other COPO owners tell their own stories if they wish. |

FJ did not deserve that.
Looked like something you would see on yellow bullet.com |

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk
I thought I would chime in on the COPO discussion to clear up a few points from what I know firsthand. I am in line for a 427 N/A car and scheduled to take delivery on November 19th. I have had the good fortune of establishing some great relationships with the group at GM responsible for these cars coming to life.
1. GM did in fact work to get some cars in dedicated racers hands as early as possible. Not every racer was accommodated, an impossibility, but we can easily see that more than a few early delivered COPO's have been on the track from the earliest available completions. 2. Yes, some cars will surely become garage queen collector cars but GM really did try and select people that would campaign these cars, some very seriously and other more in the vein of a weekend warrior type fun drag car. Sounds like the old days to me, huh? 3. The COPO assembly facility in Michigan is very much on schedule and contrary to what some are saying, it looks like all 68 cars will be built and delivered in calendar 2012. If they miss, I'll bet it will be only a few cars finished in January but my guess is they will finish on time. 4. Most importantly: look one over when you get a chance. The build quality is outstanding. There are incredible details on these cars that really set them apart from the Ford and Chrysler offerings and it sure looks like their performance on the strip will very competitive as they evolve even more. So yes, I am a little biased, but those are the facts. I'm thrilled to be getting one soon and waiting for Spring for the fun to begin. |
