For those of you who have never experienced a MAJOR New England snow storm, as dangerous and difficult as they can be, schools close, business are forced to shut down and people stay home. The world stops for a day, neighbors help neighbors, strangers help strangers. Sometimes it's a welcome change of pace to the mundain days of mid winter here in the northeast.

Spent 8 hours in my truck today plowing,no I don't do it for a living, that was just 5 driveways that I had already done twice yesterday. All relatives plus our home and business. Pushed a lady out with some locals, she was trying to get home and had worked all night. The only thing open was a few gas stations, no stores or restaurants. Some eating establishments are open tonight. It takes awhile to move 2 feet of snow, some snowbanks are high enough you need a parascope to get out into the road. Still no power at our daughter Amy and husband Ben's house in the Boston area. They are chllin' for sure.

Last night I went across town to plow my Mom's driveway for the 2nd time. I have never seen it snow that hard, on my way home about 10pm, the visability was so bad that I was creeping along using the mail boxes and telephone poles as the only guide to stay in the road. Took 45 minutes for a 5 min trip. unreal how hard it came down.

Tommorrow I am taking a snowmobile ride,,,,,,maybe right down my street

It’s Sunday at 1:00 pm. I just got done Plowing add on customers to my route. I have 48 customers on my route that I completed yester day at 7:00 pm, started my route Friday at 11:000 pm. We had in Wilton 18 inches. My son in Fairfield had 35 inches. Heard on radio, that in Hamden CT, they had 42 inches. Would think we were in the middle of the country with these numbers.

Just got back with the beagles after a 4.7 mile walk through the slush. Here in Andover we got 24-30 inches, Did 7.5 hours might have been 8 hours of shoveling and pushing(think big snow shovel/man powered plow). Not really that bad on the workload front. Its was a rather dry snow with good work conditions of 15-17 degrees so overheating wasn't an issue. For those in the south, its the 15 inches of wet dense snow that is a real pain.....this stuff is easy.

I missed building my own personal snow mountain in the front yard last year!

Ed,

We don't know how you make it through the summer, so I guess we all learn to live with what we are given!

Yeah. It's in the 90s a lot, sometimes 100, but we can get around and don't to plow or shovel it. LOL

An incredible amount of snow in such a short time in Suffolk county, Long Island. In the Smithtown - Hauppauge area 28 to 32 inches not including drifts. The prediction of the changeover from rain to snow was 6 to 8 pm but the cold front came in around 3 pm and caught a lot of people heading home. The LIE (495) , Sunrise Highway (27) , Rt .347 and 25 had stuck and abandoned cars all over the place and were still picking up abandoned cars as late as this afternoon. Many streets still not plowed. Rain supposed to come in over night through tomorrow. Will be lots of flooding as most drains are blocked by tons of snow and ice. Very interesting few months as we had a historic hurricane and now a historic snowstorm. Whats next out here ? At least I did not lose power and FIOS cable.
