This didn't have anything to do with class racing. But back in the seventies.
A certain street race car was supposed to race someone at West Hampton Long Island. Drag Strip. The deal was to go in the track first weigh the car then race.
The car was way lighter than they said so the guys took a NYC manhole cover and put it in the trunk. Then dumped it on the return road. So they could put it in after the race.
I went to that track in the 90's and the manhole cover was still there.

i remember in the old days with my 68 chevelle at green valley i pulled in to tech line and red was teching cars he teched all the cars but me. finally red came over to me and said pizzolatti is what he used to call me had to love him. if you want me to tach your car you better go change your tee shirt.i had on a KAWASAKI motorcycle shirt. i said red what's wrong is it too dirty.he said in a mad way when i was in the war i had to fight to many of them.so if you want to race today go change that shirt. so i changed my shirt an we became friends after that. RIP my friend.

E-Town Early 70'S With Greg X. Z-28 emblems on a SS/D 427 Camero. Now you can probably run a 427 and claim it's a 302.

I loved Red. Scared to death of him until I got to know him. He mistook my '56 wagon for a same color blue '55 wagon from Arkansas he caught the year before with a 283". Man, he put through the ringer for a while. When he learned I was not them, he got OK. Still a while before I ever saw him smile. Got to where he would compliment something I had done. I think he was great.

Back 'in the day', Stockers had to have the windshield wipers. The rules didn't specify that they had to be on the car, only that they had to be there. Most guys tossed 'em in the trunk or in the back seat area.

I bounced this guy at a Div. 5 Points race in Brainerd. At least he the wiper blades........(grin)

The first National event I went to with my 1968 Mustang SS/FA that I got from Hubert Platt was Pomona 1970. I won class and was off .002 deck height on # 1 cylinder. This was back when you could pick which cylinder to check and I said # 1 because it was easy to get to. It was the only one that would not pass. We went back to Fl without putting it back together fixed it and went faster at the first Gatornationals. I bought a 1969 Mustang shell from Hubert that had been a Boss 302 test car. In 1971 I race at Indy, and the Grandnationals and than was going through tech at the World Finals and they said my car wasn't legal because there were no quarter panel scoops and they wanted me to install scoops before I could race. All 69 Mustangs had the scoops except the Boss 302. My division tech director finally convinced them to let me race but they said don't come to Pomona without the scoops. I installed the scoops and when I went to Pomona I was running .2 under the record and I went to Jerry Valentine and said thanks I picked up .2 because the scoops gave me more down force.

I always enjoyed listening to how things were back in the day. I like talking to Jim Wilson about when he was racing in his younger days.

Its amazing how different things are but yet how similar a lot of things are. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I remember that Bobby...at 1984/85 Springnationals. Me, Gary & Nicki, Bobby & Janine Griffith, and Jim Griffith. We passed you on I-70 on your way back. I think Bobby actually said "He had to pass this time?" LOL......Your car was red and you had the ramp truck.

My first teardown experience was at the same place (Mayo's AAmco transmission in Reynoldsburg) with Gary Russell. It was us, Matt Rover, and Howard & Greg Stanfield. Upon dis-assembling Gary's Q-jet, Dave Danish noticed a small baffle on the floor of the float bowl made out of the top of a Sucrets box. (Leroy Hoaglin did the carb) All Dave told Gary is to take it out.

We all ate pizza that night too.
