Before they allowed Jericos in Stock Elim, I documented that it cost me $20 per run in transmission maintenance alone on my A/Stock Camaro.

this is what it cost me to race @ reading for two weekends last Oct.

race fuel $200.00
diesel $1000.00 (3200 KM)
two races $450.00 fee
new slicks $450.00
beer $200.00 for two people for 10 days @ .60 a beer
Off work $2000.00
food $0 have to eat anyways
crap $400.00.

went 11 rounds over the two weekends(not including TT and class)

$427.27 a round

.also does not including $80,000 for the truck and trailer or insurance. $30,000 for the car,$10,000 for a spare motor.

to race local it would cost
fuel 30 don't use race fuel (car is faster with street gas)
diesel 150
fee 60 plus 20 for a gamblers race
tires 30
beer 30
off work 0
food 0
crap 50

If I went a 11 round over the weekend,it would cost me $33.64(not including TT)

also does not including $80,000 for the truck and trailer or insurance. $30,000 for the car,$10,000 for a spare motor and much,much more crap.

And I'll do it again and again and again because it what I do

I have a pickup, open trailer, and race car that are completely paid for, build durable low-maintainance combinations, get 2-3 times the mileage of the big fancy rigs, split hotel rooms, and numerous other details that make it possible. I run my racing operation as a business, so I am very well aware of what my expenses are each and every season, and I keep a logbook to track runs. Just because most people choose not to race cheap, don't assume that it can't be done. When I raced locally, my expenses were far lower still.

Some years the cost per run may be a little higher, some a little lower. It depends on if a given year is a maintainance year, which car(s) I'm racing, what type of event you're running, etc. Since travel is a large component of a given weekend's cost, NHRA class racing is going to have the highest cost-per-run when it takes 3-4 days to make 7 runs, whereas double-entering in 3-4 races over the course of 3 days at a big money bracket race you can easily chalk up over 30 runs.

Years ago, my buddy bought a nice racecar cheap. He said it was a "divorce car". Asked him what that meant. Said the seller had a shoebox with each and every receipt. Can't remember the exact figures per above or we he sold / bought it for, but, it was definitely a fire sale. I am quite confident the money did not go back to the ex-racer.

We are only talking gas/fuel here: the ocean boat, probably 1,100.00 to fill it, the bay boat 50.00, and the race car 70.00 to 120.00 depending on how many rounds. Kelly; according to my calculations $200 for beer for 2 people is 15 beers a day. Looks like my cost per round just went way up!

Why would you ever want to check the cost per run.....that's like checking fuel mileage...when it needs gas ...stop at the gas station and buy gas...Steve
