I know, I know all about the Aussie school bus with the 390. I have worked on numerous at my shop. The friggin steering wheel is on the wrong side, the Holley carb is waaaay too big for a school bus and when my shop foreman pulled the bus in he about tore off that damn oil pan because it hangs waaaay too low...How about that Mr. Rusty ???

I can't see why this thread has gotten so far off topic?

Who gives a damn about the diameter of school bus rods- and what in the world does it have to do with the legality of a COPO engine, which by the rules submitted by GM to NHRA is completely and totally legal?

I am beginning to think that those cars have a different rule book than the rest of us...

I will bet the the "SAM-tech" car gets torn down at the next race as well as anyone affiliated with that program. Just my opinion.

Why would you say that.?

CYLINDER HEADS

Porting, polishing, welding, epoxying and acid-porting prohibited.
Combustion-chamber modifications prohibited

and from the article "http://www.enginelabs.com/engine-tec...liminator-ls7/"

“The maximum intake port volume we’re allowed is 275cc, so we milled down the intake flange surface to shorten up the length of the port just slightly. This gives us some extra room to touch up the short-turn radius, bowl, and valve job area and increase the cross-section a bit without exceeding the cc limit,” Judson reveals.

hmmm?

that's funny

Yeah, I wouldn't have told that one. Might have done it. Would not have told it. LOL

what makes you think that the heads are not the best they can be right from GM? Why would you have to start with a new head anyway? These cars were build in a max effort capacity to begin with by a company that has every resource.

Those engines are complete junk compared to what these cars have now. the 1970 pro stock engines were warmed over passenger car engines. Very good for the time but nothing compared to what these cars are coming with

Then why do all the newer combos (COPO, Cobra Jet, Drag Pak) go quicker when "gone through"?
