Upon a closer look, it's listed as a '71, but it has a '72-'74 grille.

I think that may be Glen Hartzlers old car. '72-'74

Is the car not "NHRA legal" per the expert panel here?

The car is a 72 340 car, they have it listed wrong on the qualifying sheet. Mike usually runs his 71 Challenger 383 combo. That's where the mix up may have come from. It is not Glen's old car. His car was bought buy a guy from Vermont and I think it may have been sold again. This car has been around d1 for a couple of years now. It could be a west coast car or a new one built by Mike and Tom. Tom was driving it last year. John Shaul may be involved in it also, I'm not sure though. It's beautiful just as nice as Mike's challenger, they do it right.

Does it matter anymore? I'm a purist, a Mopar guy from birth and if all '69 Camaros can't have cowl induction hoods why should a 'Cuda have an AAR hood if it's not legit, it just never happened. Sorry to offend anyone but that's my opinion and don't get me started about the "NASCAR Hemi" cars with the A990 scoops.

Frank, you are right on that Nascar thing, but it also had the birdbath crossram which it has that dual plane thing that came 30 years later. Also had the 3 barrel Holley. Maybe an offset. Just thinking.
