It is official. 2018 drag operations will cease. Road racing and dirt racing will continue. VIP area and stands will stay in place. Car shows and flea are good. Its done.

The Problem with Long Island is the toll & traffic to get into the city. I have a few .90 racers in my series who come from LI and the horror stories about traffic and how much they spend in tolls will make anyone cringe and not want to go.

I understand that but we have thousands of racers already on the island, they would provide the day in day out money that would keep the track running, and if it can get a couple larger events a year it would do great. We've already have a task force formed by the county legislature office to help fins a suitable piece of land, and are talking with a lot of towns to try to find a place that will work, the more people that we can get to join shows that it is a serious effort.

Kind of a ho-hum statement from NHRA, would have thought that based solely on the revenue the National event generated that they would have stepped up to assist the Napp family....with the great car counts and crowds seen in Division 1 you'd have thought they wanted more than just Epping and Maple Grove National events; perhaps they will step up with more later.

Sad day for drag racers, but especially Div 1. There was plenty of history at that track.

Re: Englishtown Closed To Drags

The first race I ever attended was at Englishtown in 1970. I raced there every year from 1976 to 1997, except for one. The majority of my wins, including my first and last were there. Its the only place I raced a 'legal' class, and the site of my only final at either an NHRA National or Divisional event. I represented it six times at the Bracket Finals and I have a storage bag with all the team jackets I earned.

Even though its been two decades since I stepped foot on the property I'm still proud of what I accomplished there and I'll miss it .

Re: Englishtown Closed To Drags

The big question I have is where does this leave dragracing. The economy is pretty good, fuel prices low. A track can make more money leasing asphalt than running drag races, hope this is not a trend.
