Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
You know I have been a Chevy guy all my life. But it was getting old watching the COPO Show. The Mopar guys are getting their act together and that is good. Come on Ford and make it a better race. Hey COPO guys start tuning them up you have competition now. This will be fun to watch!!!!!

Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
It would be interesting if NHRA could get an untouched versions of all those engine, dyno them, and classify them all off that. Not the bogus low numbers MOPAR, GM & Ford have provided them.
|
Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
Obviously they could Dyno them and get a reality check on h.p. But then the manufacturers could potentially set up software ( like V.W did to their diesel motors to satisfy emissions ) to sense when being tested to dumb down the h.p, via timing, fueling, rpm,...Or possibly by
selling the vehicle with the out the door lower h.p, then offering a software update, new tuning instructions. |
Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
I think NHRA was premature in changing the weight breaks right now. There is no question that the Dodges are making significantly more horsepower than Chevy or Ford, however I think there is significantly more factory involvement from Chrysler than the other two. The Challenger is the worst body of the three by a fair amount. Right now they all have the same blower and throttle body I think. Maybe some tweaks to the specs to help Chevy and Ford, cam lift, runner volume, who knows. The Dodges are just now starting to separate from the other two in no small part because of the factory involvement,DSR , Tony Bischoff and my buddy Kevin Helms working full time on them. Penalizing the Challengers seems like when you work hard and run faster you don’t get rewarded but thumped.

Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
Its a tuners race of who can go A to B the best. The result of the 25 lbs. addition to one car will in affect make the tires smaller. On the other side of the coin, the 25 lbs. reduction in the COPO and Fords will make the tires seem larger. The Dodge Boys will have to walk a finer knife edge to make a good run with an increased lbs./sq in. tire contact patch loading. The tuners job of the Ford's and Chevy's just got a little easier
With only two races left NHRA changes the rules..... |

Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
Maybe we are not looking at it from a tuners point of view, trying to stick a 9in tire with all that HP might be easier with a little extra weight. What will NHRA do then to equal "The Playing Field"

Re: Make the Chevrolet Win
Greg, what are the hp numbers to push those three front ends? If the powers that be take the route of pro stock, like a common template that heads down the same dead end that ruined pro stock.
