I think it could possibly be a interesting bracket car, with a warranty, and might lead new blood into the stock and superstock arena. Especially if Ford and GM, put out their own like minded models. Then and only then would the subject matter of a car like this competing as is in stock be something to talk about. Own class, etc. Could it happen, who knows.

Now the economics of currently building one of these for stock and superstock, aren't that compelling, as a 45K entry point or so is just the beginning. 100K done would likely be reasonable.

Someone might do it, a wrecked car would be more $ reasonable. @ 413 HP I don't think it looks like a good package. I leave it up to those in the know on the delta between this motor and the Indy motors from last year in the Camaro, etc.

A original E-Body 70 like mine or Jerry in Texas would be a better use of $ to go run at the windmills of A-Stock and A-Stick. If you want to play, be prepared to pay.

Its a bonfire of the cash, of that all must agree, whether its a 69 big block camaro, a new Camaro, a new challenger, a new mustang, or even a old challenger or cuda......

Eric

If Mopar offered that 1320 Challenger engine in crate form...

...and if converting a 2008-2012 Challenger body was easy, to look like a 2019, then maybe that could create a more cost reasonable combo.

I am not familiar with how hard it would be to convert the bodies on those Challengers

Part number for the motor is 68303090AA. Cost is around $8-9,000 depending on where you get it.

Essentially the hood, dash, and the front and rear fascias. Most of the FS/XX Challengers last year, started off as earlier models. Probably best to start with one of the unused original 2009 Drag Pak's that were only supposed to be sold to racers and be raced, but ended up sitting in collections losing value, since most of the hard work is already done.

Thanks for the part number.

So it sounds like converting a body to a 2019 style is a bolt on affair ?

The dash will most likely be taken out any ways to remove un-necessary stuff and/or install the cage.

392 junk yard engines (with accessories) around here start at $5-7000, early Challengers around $12,000. 2012 SRT 392 with miles around $20-30,000. That engine in stock form has some get up and go, headers, cam, "stocker work" maybe 600 or more hp potential, mine ran 12.50 105 spinning the first 100 ft, all stock, 308 gear, HEAVY. There was nothing like this back in the heyday 60s.

I would like Jeff Teuton to share some insight on the robustness of the 392 engine as regards especially the bottom end and the main caps. As I understand, the main caps are powered metal.

A 15-19 Challenger flood car is the way to start. No need to convert any front or rear trim and panels. A complete crate engine is the easy but more expensive way to start. You can order the block, heads and crank from Dodge. Many parts to buy to get one of these together. I'll let you know in the end.

Is the 1320 Challenger hood unique to that model only ?

The hood is a 15-18 Hellcat hood. They are $800 or so new depending on the deal you can find plus paint. Last year there many Houston flood cars available at a cheap price. After selling off motor/trans/rear end/wheels tires/interior the basic shell was free. But, it’s like picking up a piece of wood and thinking you have a house for free! At least you have a rust free body to start with.

Is there a part number for the hoods? or does an after market company make them ?
