I'd absolutely be in!

Probably get Wong back in it too... although I am not sure we want to haha.

Thanks,

I remember the lead-up to the U/SA Shootout as one of the most fun times on here. I don't have a dog in the hunt, but, if you guys can put another one together, I will throw in some tow money.

Most seem to think that the 302 Fords would run away with this thing. First it depends on where the race is held. Most of the 302s are way out west, so that might be a factor on which ones would show up.
But I have to tell you that there are a few combos that haven't been built yet, that would give the Fords a run for their money. Right, Billy?
And no..Don't ask..Just hit the books ;-)

The books were very kind to the 302 @ 143 hp. The 1973 Dodge Challenger with a 318 makes U/SA. Still at 169 hp, which didn't sound terrible at first. Hardly has a chance carrying 500 lbs extra. Might have to really work on Paul's 65 Belvedere. We have more up our sleeves.

the other Paul

NHRA created this mess with the Ford 302 with the stroke of a pen. They can correct this with a stroke of a pen. Everyone in the country knows it was a bad move the day they did it. You can't have a level playing field when things like this happen.
The only U/SA in the country that can compete with the Fords is Bob Shaw's Caddy, which is a 12.80 car. Just ask Charley Bob.

Like any “ringer” the hp will be put back on a few at a time though.

302 2bbl is the reason I’m finally (FINALLY) changing my 83 bracket car to a 79 and joining the stocker ranks for the first time. I will NOT be a player, just a nobody who wants to test the waters and hit the index in the heat.
If I knew what I was doing and had the funds, I’d buy a turn key class car, but it would still be a fffford.

I believe that another U/SA Shootout would be great, but isn't that just like a "class elimination" race with two or more competitors.

Maybe NHRA should have more "class" races at national events.
Better yet, have "class" at divisional races along with regular eliminations. That alone would increase car counts.

I believe that the Graham's out west banged on the hp rating several times, real hard too, but yet it is still a heavy player. They worked hard to get there, but it was a killer combo to start with and still is.

Ya know, I personally believe that the 302 FFFFord deal turned out to be a good thing even though I didn't think so at first. A bunch of cars got built and that's a good thing.
However, NHRA should have taken a lesson from this and dropped the factors on a lot more lo/po combos.
The thing that I see when dealing with the 302s is that NHRA considers each body and year as a separate combo because of FFFFord's way of "part-numbering heads and manifolds by year, making HP hits a long, drawn out thing.
My 307 and 301 stuff has different numbered heads and intakes and even different cam specs but they're all (largely) considered the same.

But this is O/T so, "back to our regularly-scheduled program".

Billy you know you want to build a fffford.
