Actually I'm going to build a diesel engine for my car, so I can also race it in the diesel series.

You don't sound like much of a racer to me,2nd round is where you gear up to win................

Well, no sooner did you earn some credibility on the board with the beer drinking comment then did you lose all credibility with the diesel engine comment!

I'll vouch for you though...Give him a break guys as Micheal is a good guy just trying to get back up to speed after a long layoff. Don't crucify him just because he questioned the norm. That's what us engineers are supposed to do.

Regarding competitive 170+ mph cars, I would agree that for the most part the competitive fast S/G cars are in the 165 mph range. But, now we're talking semantics. 165 mph / 170 mph - its basically the same thing, and there's a whole boat load of cars that run within +/- 5 mph of 165 mph.

But, who cares. I'm going to drink beer.

So that's the problem, too many engineers on this board!

I really am going to build a diesel for my car eventually. Really, quit laughing!
http://www.nhrda.com/Vdz/20080816/PS.htm (the announcer was reading the "car owner" instead of the driver). We had it running pretty soft to keep from breaking parts, but it has gone 149 mph. I figure an identical motor in my car (1100 lbs lighter) could be a decent S/G motor.

Yup, he did, but I didn't rub it in. He's a good friend who stays at my house for local races.

Mike, if you build a diesel super gas car, I will drive it for you. I like slow cars anyway. Just as long as the exhaust is pointed towards the competitor & we'll put a smoke screen on those fast cars so they can't top end drive.

Why, because:

A. it was relatively short.
B. I took a jab at Mr. Pliska.
C. I mentioned drinking beer.
D. all of the above

I'm guessing most would respond "D".

Definately "D"

I guess I could rig up an "aiming" adjustment on the exhaust, depending on which lane I draw. I don't see any rule against excessive smoke! And they'd never know if I smoked the tires while braking at the other end! (starts sketching design for exhaust aiming mechanism)...

Thanks for the kind words. I'll be watching my rearview mirror for you guys chasing me through the staging lanes ;)

Just got the new National Dragster, interesting to see the Jeg's Sportsnationals results from Fontana (area where all this .90 racing stuff started). It was interesting to note that S/G and S/ST both had finalists with relatively low-mph cars (low 140's & high-120's respectively), and S/C was won by one of those 170+ mph doorslammers.

I'll just be glad to get my car back out there!

Not NHRA or IHRA but DHRA does. Go to www.dhraonline.com check out hte rules for hte bracket racing. Just having fun here.

If the smoke from your exhaust is so thick that it blacks-out (interferes with the normal, proper operation of) the staging beams in either lane, you will be disqualified.

But note that it just refers to the staging beams - As long as I don't smoke them out (which will result in an invalid ET), I'm home free!

I've had some time runs in diesel brackets when I was in a very slow vehicle (I once raced a 22.6-second U-haul at a diesel national event), when the faster truck put down so much smoke on the top end that I had a hard time seeing the finish line. Maybe this IS the way to negate the high top end speeds of the .90 classes, safety be damned ;)

Yea, went to the DHRA a couple of weeks ago at HRP. Man I was pickin black soot out of my nose for a week, LOL. Oh yea, I ran between 17.43 and 17.50 on 5 of my 7 time trials. Dialed a 17.48 ( I can hit the brakes, right) broke out with a 17.27 and 6 mph slower. You ever tried to slow an 11,000 lbs truck down from 75 mph?

Not 11,000 lbs, but countless times in a 7500-8000 lb truck! I ran the full NHRDA series in the western US this year, along with the NADM nationals in Bakersfield. The funniest part was when I tried racing my diesel Jetta instead of my F350 crew cab dually, and hit the brakes on the top end. I ended up letting the guy around me since I wasn't expecting to park on the finish line!

I got a 04 C4500 Chevy kodiak with a bully dog programmer and homemade 4" exhaust. Pulls 2 cars in a 48' trailer like a toyota pulling a jetski.
