I see Bob Shaw is still playing the AHFS game at only .935 under.

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Ed,
Detroit hasn't built a carbureted car since the mid 80s. So, you are wanting the class to be nostalgia Stock? EFI hardly ruined Stock. I love how you cry babies make blanket statements that don't really make any sense. One car was a run-away in the 90s, the LT-1, but there were plenty of other EFI combos that got spanked by carb cars. Dean |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, not only do they get HP on Monday but NHRA should also use the runs at the end of the period (Nov.- Dec.). So they should get a double wammy!
|
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Now the 5.7 will only be 75+ hp short at 324, the 5.9 about the same at 284, and the 352 ford about 90 or so at 295. If things stay the way they are, none of the other combos will even get hit (besides Blossom's PT Cruiser). This will keep happening once a year, at Indy, so we still have 6-7 years left of this, maybe longer if the guys get smart about it. I think I'm going to get a chance to see the results of the first two E/SA cars in the 9's tomorrow...

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Its been a tough day, and I guess it pretty obvious I did not choose the right class. I probably would have been in the top 40 if I would have went to A. Oh well, no one to blame but me. I did not take into account how much the new cars would effect the bump. I would say it was 7 to 8 faster last year, but the bump went up mostly because of the new cars this year.
My troubles are nothing compared to the three guys that are broke and will probably not be racing. Larry Hill broke engine, Keith Lynch had some ignition problems that he said he could not overcome. I watch Joey Wilkes run, he started to smoke a bit by the 400 foot mark, some pieces flew out, and he oil the track a little. I think it was the engine but I could be wrong. I feel so bad for Larry, two engines in one year. The local weather calls for a little more cloud cover tomorrow not as hot, 84 for the high. Not sure it will be any quicker, but we will run at 8 am sharp for first round of class, which counts as our last qualifying shot. |

Plain and simple. These cars(DP/CJ)would just be another car in S/S.The factories wanted them to stick out and NHRA whored themselves (like they did with the FI cars in the 90s)only it's more obvious now.If I had aA-E car I guess you could call it crying on my part. But I only have a lowly T car.Do you hear me crying about Bob's car?BTW what make and class is your car? |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Sorry I haven't been on here for a while, but we have been crying in our beer (or vodka or wine). Yes , we are broke. Thanks to Jerry Bennett, George Widuch and Mike Bennett for helping to get our car back in the trailer. we will still we here for another day or so, so more later when I haven't been drinking!

Bummer about the motor, is it not fixable there?
Great pictures. |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Is anyone else having trouble with Live Timing this morning? It works and then it stops... right now it is giving the pairs but no information on the run. This is SO maddening!! It worked a while and now we're back to freeze frame... geez! Just great! Now it says "service unavailable"!!! :(

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Larry, sorry to hear about the motor..... If there is a good side to this at least you are not at the beginning of the "Swing".... Keep smiling and things will change.... Mack

Larry and Patsy, so sorry about you mis-fortune. You were probably leaning on it for the big show. Thanks for all the reports and pictures from all over. You sure help us folks that have to stay home. Thanks.

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
10.24 and 10.25 in E/SA! WOW!

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Well first round of class is over with some really good runs. One run that was questionable was P/SA with Marty Buth and Krystocek. Marty ended up being declared the winner. They have called stock back up again. The weather seems better, but we don't have the tail wind today so the et's are not showing it. It still looks like it may rain later in the day. We are staying for another day or two, so I will be posting more later.

It's 3.25%, and no, it won't make enough difference to even see, most of those cars still are not showing their hand. It wouldn't reign some of those cars in if they got hit with 3.25% 3-4 times. The racers will not unite, the closest thing to a united front the sportsman have ever put up was Indy in 1981 when the Modified racers protested. If all of the Stock and Super Stock racers with traditional combinations would withdraw from 2-3 events on the Monday before the race at 11:45, NHRA would at least be stuck with some upset fans who might ask questions. But NHRA would probably just lower the quotas and add 0.90 Super class cars. We now have the Internet, and a half dozen sites, giving us the ability to organize and unite as never before. And it will never happen. We'll all be ice skating hand in hand with Satan himself in his own back yard before people stand united to preserve our sport. |

What happened to Ryan McClanahan? Did he blow it up?

NHRA you are an idiot!!! And the racers who show up to support them at National events are just as bad! Everyone knew this was going to happen and this would have been the perfet time to show NHRA that if this is what NHRA wants this is what they will get!! 30 to 40 cars for total car count!! NO SUPPORT Oh, I forgot! We can't stand together for anything!!! |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
My car is at Indy this weekend being raced by Bo Butner. He just got out run by a new Challenger that went 10.20 at 131 in E/SA. Junior I agree with you about not going to National events. I let Bo have my car because he blew his up in Bowling Green.

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
That's plain stupid now i know why NHRA dropped the index's 3 tenths
|
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
With the mockery that the 5.7 is making of C/D/E, the supercharged CJ's don't look so far out of whack anymore...
My sympathies to the guys with tried and true non-CJ/DP cars that don't have a prayer in class. Pretty pathetic. Mark Lelchook has a really fast '69 340 Cuda in D and he's a half-second behind...and that's just one example. |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Jared, Bo went a 10.80 and got out run by 6 tenths. 10.80 is 1.20 under the old indexes.

Maybe have Indy 4 -times a year and it would only take about 2 years (maybe) to correct itself. I know ,just drop the indexes 3 more tenths. This is waaaayyyy screwed up !

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Ryan McClanahan's engine let go about the 1200 foot mark.
I always like to stay positive and I will be back here next year, but the new cars are so far ahead. It is hard to stay up beat when you see the numbers these cars can run I feel for everyone that has worked so hard on their combo's. Maybe just maybe NHRA will see what happen this week and fix the disparity between the new and old cars. On some lighter notes, A Stick has been a blast to watch. John Calvert just beat Ralph Porpora in the semi's, and will run Jason McCormack for the class final. B/SA will also be fun to watch, it does not have any new cars to deal with. Hawk, DeFrank and Wilkes are the cars to beat. Who's knows what these guys are holding. Kreeber was my pick to surprise everyone, but he lost on a hole shot is round 2. I know things are looking bad with these new cars, but in the grand scheme of things life is pretty good. Hey, I'm not in the show, but I still happy to be here and still having fun. They just called stock back to the lanes for 3rd round of class. |
