Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
I am enjoying all of the reporting, and photo work, still and video. I hope all of you have a good time, but looking at the weather for you today, all I can say is stay safe and be careful. I tried to find a thread that talked about how we might handle ourselves in case of bad weather but could not find.
Take care none the less and hopefully you will get some racing done. |

Good morning everyone, as you can see from the pictures its raining. There were reports of severe weather in the area, but nothing at the track. The rain came down heavy at times last night, but all is well.
The rain is light and and is supposed to be gone by the afternoon, but I don't see the sportsman running today. If they get anything in, I think it will just be the pros. I appreciate all the kinds words, its lots of fun to do, although it can get crazy at times. I am hoping to get another in car camera, but it depends on the schedule and when we run. I guess I need to buy some more camera's. I was thinking how cool it would be to have a camera in two cars that are running each other. I will be back with an update as soon as they let us know what the schedule is for today. |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
Attention in the pits, I need STOCK, Stock, Stock to the oars, please, STOCK to the oars! Help me, help me, help me!
Whups, wrong race! ;) Made the 1:45 drive out here this morning juuuust in case. I've been to Bristol when the radar "clearly" showed that it was raining, and we're like.... Mm, nope, sun's shining! 'Course I've been to Norwalk with a Sunny and 80 forecast that rained for 3 straight days. |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
We used to get the same story from PBIR. After about the third time making the 1 1/2 hour tow only to find the place under water, we'd call and ask the guy in the tower to stick the phone out the window - if we couldn't hear the rain we headed North! :)
Good luck to all this weekend! Lew |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
Atco was that way for us, since it's only 40 minutes from the house we would take the risk and drive to the track. We would get to the old WAWA (Now it's like Old Nelson's Farm) and it would be pouring in sheets there so we would call the track which is about a mile down the road and the girl on the phone would be like it's Sunny and Beautiful here and were just about ready to start racing. When we told her where we were at and it was pouring she hung up on us...haha!

Just announced Pro Stock at 12:30 (if all goes well)
Dark clouds over the dirt track, peeks of sun every once in awhile 10ft from there. ;). Did some hiking all over. Gotta say, this place was designed really well. There are significant drainage ditches along the track and a retention pond by the end of the track off to the right. You can see the trickle of water next to the guardrail running downtrack. The shutdown surface looks really nice, almost polished. Coming back up the track, you can see the dirt track and the circle track from the scales. Looking across from the scoreboards and the end of the grandstands looking over to the pro pits and grandstands, you can clearly see the elevation change. Pretty sure they didn't build the grandstands uphill. ;) Took a trip to the top to get the lay of the land, and again could see over to the dirt track nearby. Track crew is working hard! |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
Hey Michael, as a side note to this tread, I was at MIR last night. The "new" water box boy in the right lane last had Plenty of water in his box for you. LOL. He was getting the track ready for today's rain out. I could have used your oar!

Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
I enjoy the place last year and the way it was layed out, the only surprising thing was the lack of water in the pits, I don't need it much, but we had to go over to the pro side to find water and it was rare there. And they didn't want you taking jugs thru the tunnel. Has that changed ?

Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
I figured they might try to save some track drying time, and just send stock out there as the Official Track Dryers of the NHRA.
This has been a great race. Since we hadn't been out since Pomona, I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms. And I have been able to meet some great new folks, met Michael Beard amongst others, and we are pitted near Bubba who is a genuine treat. And we get to visit with lots of other friends, like Jim and Pam Marshall, and Jimmy Perrone and Karen. As a quick aside, it occurred to me last evening as I was finishing an adult beverage, that Charley Bob is driving a Mustang... So does that make his car a Charley Horse? OK, maybe I had too much adult beverage last night, but I can assure you that I wasn't alone on that score... David The New Hemi Guy |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
....Aaaaaaand Reinhart says, "as long as nothing else falls from the sky..." Which of course was followed by a light sprinkle.
At Beaver Springs one time, Beaver Bob announced, "The following is NOT true: That's it, we're done for the day, cancelled". Boom, the sun came out. Works like a charm! :) Unrelated notes: - I was impressed with Jack Zimmerman's run in class. Overshadowed by Lynch, but noteworthy of its own. Great runs by Boburka, too. - Shout out to the guy doing the parking and pit-side class calls via golf cart. Nice, friendly, and a good attitude, just like Cowboy from Bristol. Need more like them. Most just have a stoic businessnesslike demeanor, which isn't a bad thing. - Windy! Not raining hard, but an intermittent sprinkle that's going to hamper drying efforts. - Good one, David! I'd like to do the lettering for that one! |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
It does look like Zimmerman and Boburka have been sharpening their butter knives, with Jim's sharp enough to cut the mustard this time.
Jim's 1.295 , 60'; 3.966 330' and 8.264 1000' looks like you could have run 9.94 @ 130 and change. |

Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
Well folks this will be my last live report. It has been blast as always and I hope you all enjoyed the reports. My race with Caleb was tight, but he got me on the tree and left me no room at the top. If this young man continues to drive like this, there is no doubt he will have many wins in his future.
First round for stock was a tricky one, the numbers showed it was slower, but the 10mph plus tail wind canceled that out. Below is the in car cam featuring Robbie Hudlow and racing one of Class Racers live reporters Michael Beard. So long for now, my next my next national live report will be E-town. |

Nice run, Ken. I would be very happy with your package. Not much you can do there. I always say if I can cut a .015 - .025 light and run right on or one over and they beat me, that's the way it goes. Caleb laid down a great package to beat you. Thanks a lot for the great reports and all the in-car cam videos. Much appreciated. -Toby |

Was Don Fezell's 9.38 the quickest run ever in Stock?
|
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
I've been to a lot of races this year already and frankly I'm starting to question the traction compound being used cause I'm seeing "Groundhog day" at all the events.
But thats just my 2 cents |
Re: "Live From" NHRA 4-Wide National
Don ran 9.340, second quickest ever. Drew Skillman ran 9.339 at the Gators this year.

Ken great job as always!!! The in car cam vidoes are the best. I like the idea of side by side vidoes.
