I really appreciate the time and effort ya'll spend in providing us with some of the most outstanding pictures of our great country. I hope one day to do some of the same routes that ya'll have done, just to see the our country. Thanks again for your efforts. Enjoy and be safe.

Wonderful photo picture book, when our family raced west in 2001, we toured the painted desert/petrified forest, then went up the mountain thru Payson and then down into Phoenix, great memories. Thanks Larry and Patsy for the reminder of the desert beauty.

With the amount of work that needed to be done it was felt that it would be Wednesday mid-day before the possibility of sending a car down track could even be considered.
There was considerable discussion with numerous in & out of division racers and the track owners & management before a final decision was made. Several options were put on the table & each was thoroughly reviewed & disected before the call was made to run on Thursday morning at 9 am. There was even a mapquest search done to determine how far from Noble to Reynolds & Phoenix (just about the same actually) in trying to address those who needed to travel.
Yes, it does put a strain on those that were heading east to Reynolds or west to Phoenix, and those events played heavily on the final decision. Being able to assemble the needed personel to work the track, and then staff the event had to be handled too, because like most who race, they have weekday jobs too.
Over the last 22 years being invloved in the sport I've had the opportunity to watch & listen as unfortunate situations have been dealt with, and in my opinion everyone involved deserves a huge ATTA BOY for the way this one got handled, to me it was diagnosed and thought out about as well as it could be.
Nobody likes to get rained out, nobody, but track Manager Marcia Crook, owner Todd Stephens & Division director Craig Hutchinson all worked / are working very hard to make the best out of a bad situation.
Everyone can grumble, bitch and moan all they want, but until you've walked a mile in the shoes of the people that made the call this weekend, you really have no idea the anguish involved in trying to make the best of the situation, ....FROM WHERE I SAT THEY ALL DID A HELL OF A JOB!

See ya in Phoenix this weekend

Thanks Bob! It's nice to hear that side of the story. I didn't know if it was all a pit problem or not.

Thanks to the Hills for all the pictures!

I agree with Unk, I don't think any rational person could fault the effort made by the people running things. Blame the weather man. LOL

Unk, having raced Div. 4 for many years. I am not suprised by the amount of brain work that was put into the decision. Craig has made many excellent decisions over the years. In my opinion I cannot remember (although I am sure someone will) his ever making a bad decision. I have always felt that his decisions were well thought out and considered what was best for all the racers. Good job, guys.

Noble update

Still scraping the track as of 1:20 today. Weather is sunny and 70's and there is a chance of showers tomorrow in the am. The pits are drying out and the red mud is tightening up. We should be good to go wednsday for test and tune and the weather looks good for thursday to finish the race. Its going to be a tough haul to Reynolds but thats what we racers do.

Rod,
Congrats to you all for sticking it out. I've announced many a race over the years but the first round matchup that you all had with the Dalrymple's (sp?) will certainly be one of the all time greats! Massachusetts vs Washington in the middle of Oklahoma..... it was too bad someone had to lose! Especially when you both had so traveled so far to accomplish the same thing.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing

Well, we are finally here after a way too exciting trip down the scenic route. We arrived this afternoon after a little problem with the brakes on our motorhome. After numerous long 6% grades, the brakes got a little hot. There was so much smoke that 2 volunteer firemen stopped to help. Larry finally got them cooled off with water from the motorhome. Thank goodness we had just filled up this morning. Thanks to Mr. Young and the other gentleman that we didn't get his name. Also thanks to Al Corda who stopped to offer assistance. We ended up following him all the way to the track. By the time we got here, we were ready for a couple of adult beverages and to relax. We just got back from dinner with Mike and Paula Cotten, Al Corda and Mike Mingo. I took lots of pictures coming down the mountains that I will post tomorrow.

There are quite a few rigs here, but we don't get to start parking until noon tomorrow. More tomorrow.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing

I've heard the better route for pulling is to continue on to Flagstaff on I-40 and then go south on I-17...sounds like there may be some merit to that. Ever notice steep grade warnings seldom read more than 6% and you just know that's not right when smoke is boiling off the brakes despite your jake brake, downshifting, etc???

X2 on Toby's pics....spent many years in the Pacific Northwest, great memories, including the 195 mile relay race from Mt Hood to Seaside OR....well, the party at the end of the run was fun anyway.

Best of luck Larry and Patsy, if I don't get in at Vegas I'll stop by your shop when I'm in Kentucky this winter and say hello.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing

I have not been on a steep grade with my Diesel motorhome. That sounds scary. Thought the Jake Brake would be enough. Think just having an Aluminium 24' tag would make it easier enough on the brakes to avoid that problem?

The most of the rest of the photos are of the rest of the trip into Phoenix. A lot are shots of the saquaro (sp) cactus along the way. They were just amazing! Some of them were 20-30' tall.

Jim, You still have to come down about 5500' on the interstate . You DO have a few runaway ramps though...
Time of day is the big consideration as to when you want to hit downtown Phoenix.

Well we are in and parked with waterfront property. Thanks to Mike and Paula and Redman for getting us a great spot. We are up by the fence and not headed in toward the lake. We heard great stories about how Chuck Rayburn was parked here a few years ago headed in toward the lake and somehow his truck ended up in the lake!

We are about set up and ready to take a tour and figure out how to get around here. Come on by to see us if you are here!
