We had a good dinner over at the Racer Appreciation Dinner. They gave away good prizes, too, but we didn't win any. $250 Visa gift cards!! The big prize was a leather jacket with the 59th US Nationals and free entry for next year!

We are in for the night in the AC! Almost got too hot 2nd round watching from the stands in 94 degrees!

Big day tomorrow with class! We have a run at 8, then SC, then round 1 of class!

More tomorrow from us!

Jack Don't let it get to you. All of us at home wishing we were there love what you do. It's just an official that doesn't really have a clue. They seem to have a bunch of them. Must have made him feel important. At least Jack you didn't get the Barry Parker oil pan rule. I'll tell you that one if your at e-town.

Toby you are right on the money. I really love the new cars and no one loves heads up racing in stock more than I do. But how can they have cars that qualify not have the runs count toward AHFS while all others do. Indy is the one race that most let it hang out. It's the best chance for the AHFS to work on some of the under rated cars. Why didn't they just make a complete seperate eliminator for them. Show case the new cars in their own class. Just not right!!! Barry

This in car cam is David Barton's second qualifying run. I was hoping for a 9.0 run, but the track could not hold it.

I've been their biggest supporter for a great many years and I don't want any special treatment but some common sense would help - someone had to point me out to that official as I'm sure he had more important matters to attend to than tossing me out .

My advise is to just stay out of their way in the staging lanes ............And abide by the rules ! ! Even if you don't agree ..........

That is the exact same treatment my wife and I received when we went for the first time for the 50th anniversary race. Worse we were ever treated at a race and because of that I've never had a desire to go back.

So what ever happened to "Every Ticket is a Pit Pass?"

Aren't the staging lanes part of the pit's? Especially for someone who is credentialed as a competitor? Maybe it has something to do with taking pictures and not having one of those really cool "PHOTO" vest's!! We all know how wrong that is! :D

Still a shame you got picked on, Jack!

NOPE, not once you pass under the cross-over bridge then your carefully checked and screened to keep the foot-traffic down and a restricted area pass is worthless unless your with a car in line or a "credentialed" photographer. Still some nice shots........shake it off, it's not worth it.

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2013

I remember 10 or so years ago going to Indy with my brother to watch Super Stock class runs. There were (if memory serves) 250 cars in SS. Class was an all day affair. I had since then made the drive from NC to Indy just to watch class for Stock and Super Stock then drive back home. I'll catch some flack for this but shoot away. When class wins got you in on Monday there were cars there in every class. The format of qualifying IMHO has hurt the car count "numbers don't lie". I have heard the complaint and see both sides of the story that " that odd ball low dollar car got in, and my $100k+ car got sent home. Remember what the U.S. Nationals was founded on class wins! I still love watching a 2300cc Ford, 265ci Chevy, 318ci Chrysler, or an inline six load the new stuff on the trailer. My brother runs SS/GT with a rather quick car but I am still fond of the odd, obscure class cars. Indy used to be a muscle car nuts dream, I hope the dream returns. As for qualifying, save the qualifying for the Pros. BTW I was lucky enough to go to Indy and help my brother with a super stocker in 2011 and 2012 and never watched a fuel car make a pass, they are as boring as watching grass grow. If the car counts of "class" cars gets lower I doubt NHRA will care. Sportsman are only fill in to keep some action between the Pro round circus that attracts the spectators that don't know a carburetor from a injector, but is there for noise, flash, and 300mph runs. I was not able to make Indy this year, but last two years were great. I know why people return each year to meet old friends and make new ones. I wish the best for the racers that have worked hard and spent hard earned $$ to be there. I hope NHRA appreciates the effort the sportsman participants have made to be there. The officials should appreciate someone like Jack that promotes NHRA. I wish the best for NHRA leadership and hope they take a look at who got them where they are. Don Jackson

The most pathetic situation is when the funnie cars run and top fuels there is a ton of people all around the bombs or missiles on the starting line , at one race I counted 45 people all around the cars to me that is more dangerous than us around Stock or Super Stock some one does not get it lol then when we run the officials don't want anyone to be on the line weird thinking in my opinion

Great job with all the reports pics and video. Wish I was there...someday. I don't feel so bad getting kicked off the starting line for doing video anymore Jack. I go right up and take pics of the pros and have conversations with them all the way to beyond the head of staging with a Stocker crew pass! lol Hey Barry, I saw a pic of the old Camaro! For Sale on the back window...hint, hint, nudge, nudge! :)

Good morning -In less than two hours we'll hit the track again - for Stockers it'll be the last qualifier before class eliminations and a shot to move up or even get into the field .Speaking of getting in the field some big name players are yet to break into the field - names like Dan Fletcher , Brad Plourd , Lenny Williams , Gary and Tom Russell ,and Fred Henson will take a shot at the Indy asphalt this morning again .

This morning is not nearly as humid as its been but its still early and even at this hour the temp is at 72 and climbing ......more fun in the Sun again today .Hey - its Indy -- what did you expect ! !

Back a little later ...............

Good morning yourself Jack, Thanks for posting everything. Not only the racing, but all the "stuff" between the lines so to speak. No one has answered the question regarding Allyson Smyth's 1st pass issues if there were any. Can you do some sleuthing? and while you're there can you post a pic of Team Portatree? Thanks again Jack, and Ken, and Larry and Patsy.
And Thanks for the signed pictures to Sir.
Good luck, fast racing and Safety is wished for for all there.

Allison went 10.98 @ 121. From the stands, I don't remember anything unusual about the run, but I was just writing down times and not paying a lot of attention.

Well from our end of the track it is a little foggy this morning! The Stock Alarms are out and warming up. Everyone hoping to pick up in what should be the fastest run of the day!

more later!

Stock is done with the 3rd qualifying shot, the weather was about the same as yesterday morning. Many cars were up in lanes early trying to either solidify there spot or move up to get in the show.

Temp 84
Humid 61%
Bar 29.13
DA 3462 ft
2-4 head wind

I have two stock in car cam coming later, both stick cars.

David Barton went a blistering 9.07 in FS/AC... that's 1.43 under.

Be back after Class....
