Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Race day again!! It looks like it rained last night but it didn't! 88% humidity and 70 degrees with wind coming out of the south! What a difference from yesterday! 46 degrees and rain!! They are running the dryer now and should be running shortly starting with super street, then stock. Weather looks good until mid afternoon with a possibility of thunderstorms then.

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Winners are Mosbek and Wagner!
Congrats!!! I hope y’all enjoyed the pictures from this week! Division 5 doesn’t get the “Live” reporters out this way too often. We are staying here at the track tonight and then in the morning we will continue on our bread basket tour. Right now we plan to head toward Dallas and stop at a casino in OK tomorrow night and then on to stacking on Tues!! More later!! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Great Bend Kansas what a great place to have race! The most surprising part is, all of the track people are volunteers. They love the sport as much as we do. The best deal was $25 per race to plug in. Trust me with the weather here you needed it. It was cold, hot, windy, damp, and Sunday was so humid the pavement was wet. Two hours later the wind blew it all away. Trak prep was good we only sliped the tires first hit on test and tune, the rest of the races it was good.
If your a car buff D-5 is great place to see a wide variety of cars from 1 of 55 Hemis to a hatch back Monza, and it seems every other car has a stick in it |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Patsy,
It was great to meet you and thanks for the "Live" updates that you and Larry provide. Be safe and good luck during your travels. Sean |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Do Stock entries fill up very quickly at Ennis? How many grade points did it take to get in this year? Thanks Patsy and Larry for your reporting, I always appreciate it.
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
You are welcome, Jeff. I don’t remember how many grade points it was to get in . We actually got in after it dropped below 65 while we driving down the road. Our bread basket tour was kind of a last minute decision and Dallas was full! Then I looked again and it was at 64! You just have to keep checking back.
We left Great Bend yesterday in the cold and drizzle like it was on Sat. By the time we dumped, filled up with water, then drove across town for propane, it was later than we had planned to leave. Then had to work on trailer lights and stop and get new plug! Then we lost an extra hour sitting in traffic in Oklahoma City! But I am proud of myself as navigator! I used Google maps on my phone and got us around the traffic!! We are now at a casino in Thackerville, Ok. We didn’t get here til 8:30 or so. Then found truck, rv parking. Waited for shuttle to take us to Winstar, ate a decent meal. Then played about half an hour. Came out up a little $$!! We will leave here shortly and drive about 90 minutes to stacking in Ennis! Will post more then!! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Wow! What a tour you guys are making. How far west are you coming? Good luck and be safe.
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Floyd, this is as far west as we are going! Noble, OK next week, then back to St. Louis, then home!!
We want to wish “Happy Birthday” to our fearless leader Jeff Teuton today!! We will face southeast and toast you this evening!! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Well we got here to the track about 12:30 today to stacking. We are #15 after lots are already parked that are playing in the golf tournament tomorrow. I think they are playing just for early parking!!! We made a Walmart run and found a good place for lunch in Ennis at Bella Italia. Good enough that we would go back!!
Here are a few pictures from the trip down yesterday: http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCN8475.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCN8476.jpg Our stop for trailer plug. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCN8479.jpg Pictures of Kansas countryside.and neat little towns. |

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Thanks for the notes and pictures.
Donna and I love traveling like you are. Stop in small towns and visit the town squares.....antiques and visiting......then find the local cafe with the most pick up trucks.....guaranteed, the best chicken fried steak around. Yumm |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
As always, the best places to eat is where the old fat people eat. The parking lot usually has big sedans with maybe a fender or two with a scratch or two

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Of course I’ll be following along and rooting for you and Patsy. Curious that NHRA hasn’t as yet posted the detailed run schedule that usually is out on Tuesday. Perhaps because of the rain they’ve had in the past few weeks? Sure hope that’s not the case, sportsman racers always bear the brunt of schedule changes.

They have the schedule up now:
http://www.nhra.net/2018/images/NHRA...%20_18_DT1.pdf good luck to you guys in Class. Thought news said they had a bunch of flooding in the Dallas area, fake news? |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
We started parking about 7:20 this morning! As Austin said, there are lots of rocks and dust! But if it rains on Sat and Sun like it is calling for, we won’t get stuck!! We have not been here since the Super Collider fiasco some 20 years ago! It doesn’t look like much has changed except where there was grass it is now rock! Also found some sand spurs and little bitty sharp rocks that stuck in my shoes! I sure hope those rocks don’t find their way into the race car tires!
We start out with Stock at 9 in the morning with Q1, then Class!! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
We went to Babe’s Chicken in Cedar Hill tonight and boy was it good!! It was about 30 minutes from the track but well worth the drive. Thanks everyone for recommending it!!
